NYKLauritzenCool and partners
take over the Great White Fleet

(EUR 4.1 million) pre-tax profit for 2006,
and pays SEK 10.7 million (EUR 1.2 million)
in tax and a further one third of the
SEK 27.5 million (EUR 3 million) net profit
in dividend to the state.

Record orderbook
at Aker Yards
ssg-tønsberg. Aker Yards had 148 vessels
worth a little more than NOK 86 billion
on order at the end of the first quarter.
NOK 14.7 billion worth of orders were
added in the three months since the turn
of the year. The orderbook this time last
year was nearly NOK 48 billion.
The company’s subcontractors are under
a lot of strain to keep up deliveries to prevent
delays, according to Aker Yards’ first
quarter report.
Thin margins
However, profit margins on orders remain
thin. Despite operating income increasing
from NOK 5.4 billion to NOK 8.4 billion
in the first quarter, operating results only
improved from NOK 290 million to NOK
320 million and results after tax actually
fell from NOK 221 million in the first
quarter in 2006 to NOK 203 million in the
first quarter this year.

NORDIC AND EITZEN SWAP TANKERS
Nordic Tankers and Eitzen Chemical
ASA have swapped ownership of three
chemical tankers. Previously, the companies
had owned 50/50 each but
Eitzen Chemical ASA has now taken
over the full ownership of the Sichem
Pearl, while Nordic Tankers A/S has
taken over the full ownership of the sister
ships Sichem Copenhagen and
Sichem Oslo. The change does not
affect the commercial management,
which remains at Eitzen Chemical ASA
and the Eitzens City Class pool.
POLAND DECIDES ON EU GREEN BOOK
After some months of consultation, the
Polish government has officially decided
on the EU Commission’s green
book on future maritime policy.
Poland is in favour of system development
and the implementation of measures
to monitor ship traffic, increased
shortsea shipping and the development
of the European port infrastructure. It
also supports the green book’s proposals
for coastal protection measures. However,
Poland does not feel that changes
need to be made to the United Nations
Convention on the Law of the Sea.
