Anti glare screens reduce costs
The British company Solar Solve Marine
has been contracted by BP Shipping to
supply a series of 105,000 DWT aframax
crude oil tankers with Solasafe anti glare
roller sunscreens for all of the bridge windows.
The first vessel that has got the sunscreens
is the British Oak.
When anti glare screens are installed, the
air conditioning costs are reduced due to
the effective way in which the screens reject
heat that would otherwise accumulate in
the wheelhouse.
Other blinds
Beside the Solasafe, Solasolv is offering
products such as Casslite roller blinds suitable
for marine interior windows. Dammlite
fabric roller blinds provide privacy for
windows in many marine interior areas like
offices, passenger and crew cabins, meeting
rooms, lounges etc. The Litetite is a complete
blackout (99 per cent) fabric roller
blind, ideal for environments where blackout
conditions are required, like chart
rooms, control rooms and cinemas.
Varystop is a maintenance free cassette
system suitable for most windows onboard
and it withstands constant use by passengers
and crew.
The Varystop incorporates a spring roller
blind system with cassette and side guide
channels. It can be locked in any required
position and is suitable for standard and
sloping windows. It is available in a wide
range of flame retardant fabrics including
screen fabrics and blackout and can be fitted
inside the window recess or directly
onto the surrounding bulkhead or frame.

Automatic calibration reminder service
The USA-headquartered Dickson
company offers a wide
selection of temperature,
humidity and pressure
recorders and data loggers.
An automatic enrolment of
NIST-certified instruments
obtained from the Dickson
company in the Calibration
Club was announced for 2007.
Now members of the Dickson
Calibration Club are able to
create an online database for all
their instruments and assets, such
that they receive an e-mail notification
when instruments and assets are due for
calibrations.
Unlike generic instruments that only
state that calibrations are within specifica-
tions, Dickson NIST-certified temperature
and humidity
recorders and data loggers
specify a particular unit’s serial
number along with the
date of original calibration,
the calibration reading and
the specific instrument used
to calibrate the unit.
The Dickson Calibration
Club service is designed
to help those with NIST-certified
instruments ensure their instruments retain
their original calibration specifications.
