Second Destination Transportation<br />

TRANSPORTATION<br />

Funding for Second Destination Transportation (SDT) finances <strong>the</strong> movement <strong>of</strong> government owned equipment <strong>and</strong> materiel among <strong>and</strong><br />

between depots, logistics centers, <strong>and</strong> field activities including: retrograde cargo, post <strong>of</strong>fice mail, ammunition, support <strong>of</strong> classified <strong>and</strong><br />

special programs, spare parts <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r cargo. Equipment <strong>and</strong> materiel is shipped by ei<strong>the</strong>r military airlift <strong>and</strong> sealift worldwide,<br />

commercial surface transportation, or commercial air carriers operating daily flights over regular routes within CONUS <strong>and</strong> Alaska.<br />

Costs include accessory transportation services such as vessel per diem <strong>and</strong> retention charges. The following table summarizes SDT<br />

funding – “o<strong>the</strong>r” includes storage costs, container leasing, shipping equipment (e.g., cranes), <strong>and</strong> cargo tracking systems:<br />
