The Administration <strong>and</strong> Servicewide Support budget activity finances <strong>the</strong> following activities: Headquarters Marine Corps staff<br />

management <strong>operation</strong>s; servicewide transportation; Marine Security Guard detachments; acquisition program management; <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

special support.<br />

Headquarters Marine Corps staff management costs include civilian personnel salaries, <strong>and</strong> administrative support for development <strong>of</strong><br />

plans, policies, programs <strong>and</strong> requirements related to Marine Corps matters. Marine Security Guard <strong>operation</strong>s costs include vehicle<br />

<strong>maintenance</strong>, billeting, training <strong>and</strong> administrative support for detachments located within <strong>the</strong> U.S. embassies. Service Wide<br />

Transportation (SWT) finances SDT shipments for regular <strong>and</strong> emergency readiness material, including: ammunition, chemicals,<br />

medicine, subsistence, APO mail, repair parts, <strong>and</strong> high value repairable items. SWT program finances purchase <strong>of</strong> transportation<br />

services, predominately from DOD working capital fund transportation activities; Air Mobility Comm<strong>and</strong> (AMC), Military Sealift<br />

Comm<strong>and</strong> (MSC), <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Surface Deployment <strong>and</strong> Distribution Comm<strong>and</strong> (SDDC). In addition, SWT purchases transportation<br />

services from private sector firms which include aircraft, truck, rail, <strong>and</strong> barge.<br />

Acquisition Program Management provides funding for salaries <strong>and</strong> administration expenses for personnel involved in support <strong>of</strong><br />

Marine Corps acquisitions. Special support costs include Defense Finance <strong>and</strong> Accounting Service (DFAS) reimbursements, Marine<br />

Corps prisoners support at <strong>the</strong> Army Disciplinary Comm<strong>and</strong>, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; <strong>the</strong> Marine B<strong>and</strong> located at <strong>the</strong> Marine<br />

Barracks, 8th <strong>and</strong> I Streets, Washington, DC.<br />

The FY 2014 budget request <strong>of</strong> $482.7 million for Administration <strong>and</strong> Servicewide Activities reflects a program increase <strong>of</strong><br />

$6.1 million from FY 2013 funding level. The significant increases support DFAS, audit readiness <strong>and</strong> in-sourcing contractor<br />

services.<br />
