TITLE: BUSINESS ETHICS<br />

COUrSE DESCrIPTION: Business Ethics deals with human<br />

conduct (what constitutes right and wrong; good and bad) in a<br />

business context. It is <strong>the</strong> study not only <strong>of</strong> what is, but also what<br />

can be, and what ought to be. This course is intended to help<br />

students think more deeply about a wide range <strong>of</strong> business,<br />

organisational, pr<strong>of</strong>essional and personal ethical issues <strong>the</strong>y<br />

may encounter. <strong>The</strong> course will explore <strong>the</strong>ories and concepts<br />

related to business ethics; types <strong>of</strong> ethical dilemmas which one<br />

can face in various organisational contexts; <strong>the</strong> requirements<br />

and influences <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional ethics; issues <strong>of</strong> corporate<br />

responsibility; <strong>the</strong> prevalence and impacts <strong>of</strong> fraud and<br />

corruption; and specific challenges in areas such as leadership,<br />

equity, human resource management, working relationships;<br />

and <strong>the</strong> ethical decision making process, within cross-cultural<br />

as well as international contexts.<br />

COUrSE TITLE: ADVANCED POrTFOLIO MANAgEMENT<br />

NO. OF CrEDITS: 4<br />

COUrSE DESCrIPTION: Advance Portfolio Management is an<br />

advanced course for Finance majors. <strong>St</strong>udents who are likely to<br />

benefit from this course are those who want to pursue careers<br />

in asset management, investment banking, or <strong>the</strong> financial<br />

planning industry. This course blends portfolio <strong>the</strong>ory with <strong>the</strong><br />

type <strong>of</strong> practical issues that one will come across in a career as<br />

a pr<strong>of</strong>essional investment manager. Topics include, inter alia,<br />

measuring and assessing <strong>the</strong> risk-return characteristics <strong>of</strong> different<br />

asset classes, advanced strategic asset allocation techniques for<br />

determining a portfolio’s mix <strong>of</strong> asset classes, portfolio beta-alpha<br />

separation strategies, portfolio benchmarking and risk budgeting,<br />

<strong>the</strong> selection and evaluation <strong>of</strong> asset managers and portfolio<br />

performance and attribution. <strong>The</strong> course also covers <strong>the</strong> design<br />

<strong>of</strong> Investment Policy <strong>St</strong>atement and Risk Policy for managing<br />

portfolios <strong>of</strong> institutional investors.<br />

COUrSE CODE: MgMT 6117<br />

COUrSE TITLE: ADVANCED rISK MANAgEMENT<br />

NO. OF CrEDITS: 4<br />

COUrSE DESCrIPTION: This course is designed to train <strong>the</strong><br />

students in <strong>the</strong> measuring and managing <strong>of</strong> risks <strong>of</strong> a financial<br />

nature (i.e., market, credit and operational risks). In addition,<br />

students will also be introduced to enterprise-wide risk<br />

management. <strong>The</strong> course concludes with a discussion <strong>of</strong> recent<br />

issues in risk management. Risk management problems for<br />

financial intermediaries, as well as for firms outside <strong>the</strong> financial<br />

sector are also examined. At <strong>the</strong> completion f <strong>the</strong> course students<br />

should be able to apply <strong>the</strong> knowledge and tools obtained in <strong>the</strong><br />

course to measure firm-wide risk for a financial institution.<br />

COUrSE TITLE: FINANCIAL ECONOMETrICS<br />

NO. OF CrEDITS: 4<br />

COUrSE DESCrIPTION: Econometric Methods in Finance is<br />

an introductory Econometrics course for Finance students. <strong>The</strong><br />

course is intended to provide econometric exposure to students<br />

opting to major in finance. It is structured to provide broad<br />

understanding and application <strong>of</strong> econometric techniques<br />

to financial literature. Modern research in finance depends<br />

heavily on <strong>the</strong> usage <strong>of</strong> econometric methods and this course<br />

aims to assist <strong>the</strong> finance students in not only understanding<br />

contemporary research but also to use <strong>the</strong>se methods for<br />

pursuing <strong>the</strong>ir own research.<br />

M.SC. AVIATION MANAgEMENT<br />

Programme Overview<br />

<strong>The</strong> Master <strong>of</strong> Science in Aviation Management has been<br />

developed in response to industry need and is designed to<br />

emphasise <strong>the</strong> application <strong>of</strong> modern management concepts,<br />

methods and tools to <strong>the</strong> challenges <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> aviation industry<br />

and business in general. <strong>The</strong> curriculum is designed to provide<br />

graduates capable <strong>of</strong> discharging <strong>the</strong> senior management<br />

responsibilities <strong>of</strong> this dynamic and rapidly changing industry.<br />

Target groups and Admission requirements<br />

Admission to <strong>the</strong> programme will be open to persons who satisfy<br />

ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following two sets <strong>of</strong> entry requirements.<br />

Entry Requirements for Degreed Applicants:<br />

Applicants under this category should possess:<br />

• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a university or college<br />

acceptable to <strong>the</strong> UWI. Such applicants should possess at<br />

least a Lower Second Class honours degree; and,<br />

• At least three (3) years working experience,preferably in <strong>the</strong><br />

aviation industry.<br />

Entry requirements for Non-Degreed Applicants<br />

Bearing in mind <strong>the</strong> fact that currently, most persons in <strong>the</strong><br />

industry in <strong>the</strong> Caribbean who hold middle management and<br />

supervisory positions are holders <strong>of</strong> ei<strong>the</strong>r technical certificates<br />

and/or diplomas as opposed to degrees, per se, it is also proposed<br />

that entry to <strong>the</strong> programmes will be permitted to persons<br />

who:<br />

• Hold technical certificates/diplomas approved by <strong>the</strong><br />

respective regional Airports Authorities and o<strong>the</strong>r regional<br />

regulatory Air Transportation Bodies for supervisory/<br />

managerial appointments;<br />

• Have at least five (5) years managerial experience in <strong>the</strong><br />

aviation industry; and,<br />

• Are successful at an interview to be conducted by a Selected<br />

Panel to be determined by <strong>the</strong> Campus Committee on<br />

Graduate <strong>St</strong>udies.<br />

Admission under this category shall not normally comprise more<br />

than twenty-five percent (25%) <strong>of</strong> any given cohort.<br />

In addition to <strong>the</strong> above requirements, preference will be given<br />

to persons nominated by <strong>the</strong> Airports Authority <strong>of</strong> Trinidad and<br />

Tobago and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r Airports Authority in <strong>the</strong> English speaking<br />

Caribbean.<br />
