Additional requirements/information:<br />

• All students will be required to complete <strong>the</strong> year long<br />

Spanish course <strong>of</strong>fered for MSc. Management <strong>St</strong>udies<br />

students. This is a departmental requirement with no<br />

credits attached.<br />

• All students will be required to participate in a Tourism<br />

Developmental Workshop to be conducted in June <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

completed academic year as a departmental requirement.<br />

• A student who fails to complete <strong>the</strong> M.Sc. will not be<br />

automatically awarded <strong>the</strong> PgDip. Such a student would<br />

have to successfully complete <strong>the</strong> (8) courses required for<br />

<strong>the</strong> PgDip. Also, <strong>the</strong> student must make a request in writing<br />

to <strong>the</strong> School for Graduate <strong>St</strong>udies and Research through<br />

<strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Management <strong>St</strong>udies to<br />

withdraw from <strong>the</strong> completion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> research project<br />

explaining <strong>the</strong> reasons for his/her inability to complete <strong>the</strong><br />

M.Sc. <strong>The</strong> final decision rests with <strong>the</strong> School for Graduate<br />

<strong>St</strong>udies and Research. Each case is examined on its own<br />

merit.<br />

POSTgrADUATE DIPLOMA<br />

IN SPOrTS MANAgEMENT<br />

Programme Overview<br />

<strong>The</strong> emphasis <strong>of</strong> this programme is on understanding <strong>the</strong><br />

management, marketing and policy development challenges <strong>of</strong><br />

delivering sports services within today’s complex, demanding<br />

and globalized environment. <strong>The</strong> programme will also focus<br />

on <strong>the</strong> local and regional realities <strong>of</strong> sports. <strong>The</strong> courses and<br />

projects to be pursued will facilitate <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> skills<br />

and competencies necessary for success at senior management<br />

level in sporting organizations in <strong>the</strong> public, commercial and<br />

voluntary sectors.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Admission to <strong>the</strong> programme will be permitted to persons<br />

who:<br />

• Ei<strong>the</strong>r possess a degree from <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>West</strong><br />

<strong>Indies</strong> or any o<strong>the</strong>r acceptable university and who<br />

demonstrate an interest in sports management;<br />

• Or who do not hold a formal university degree but possess<br />

a record <strong>of</strong> active and extensive pr<strong>of</strong>essional experience in<br />

<strong>the</strong> management and administration <strong>of</strong> sports supported<br />

by portfolio evidence.<br />

• And are successful at an interview to be conducted by a<br />

panel approved by <strong>the</strong> Campus Principal and CIES.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Post-graduate Diploma is a 24-credit programme comprised<br />

as follows:<br />

<strong>The</strong> Postgraduate Diploma will be <strong>of</strong>fered on both a full-time<br />

and part-time basis.<br />

Initially, <strong>the</strong> courses will be <strong>of</strong>fered on a face-to-face basis.<br />

However, in due course, <strong>the</strong> programmes will be delivered<br />

both on a face-to-face basis as well as by distance mode so as to<br />

facilitate participation <strong>of</strong> persons in <strong>the</strong> wider Caribbean who<br />

are unable to attend on a full-time basis.<br />

Additional requirements/Information<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents who have successfully completed <strong>the</strong> Postgraduate<br />

Diploma with a B average can:<br />

(a) continue right away to complete <strong>the</strong> M.Sc. in Sports<br />

Management. Such students will be required to complete<br />

nineteen (19) additional credits for <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> M.Sc.<br />

(b) choose to be awarded <strong>the</strong> Postgraduate Diploma and<br />

return to complete <strong>the</strong> M.Sc. within two (2) years. Such<br />

students will be required to complete a fur<strong>the</strong>r twenty five<br />

(25) credits for <strong>the</strong> award <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> M.Sc.<br />
