3. Delivery Mode<br />

Courses <strong>of</strong>fered by facilitators from overseas will be delivered<br />

in an intensive fashion over 5-6 days. In such cases, however,<br />

<strong>the</strong> relevant exams will be held at <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> semester<br />

when <strong>University</strong> exams are scheduled. Where coursework<br />

projects are involved, <strong>the</strong>se will be scheduled over <strong>the</strong><br />

regular semester.<br />

Fur<strong>the</strong>r, whenever possible, courses <strong>of</strong>fered by local<br />

facilitators will also be <strong>of</strong>fered in an intensive fashion over 5-6<br />

days. <strong>The</strong> Airports Authority recommends this as, in so doing,<br />

fuller participation will be assured bearing in mind <strong>the</strong> thin<br />

staffing levels on which most regional airports operate.<br />

COURSE CODE: AVMT 6000 (AM 606)<br />

TITLE: OPERATIONS RESEARCH/MANAGEMENT SCIENCE<br />

NO. OF CREDITS: 3<br />

COUrSE DESCrIPTION: This course is an advanced study in <strong>the</strong> use<br />

<strong>of</strong> ma<strong>the</strong>matical and scientific tools and techniques in managerial<br />

decision-making. Operations research seeks to determine how<br />

best to design and operate a system, usually under conditions<br />

requiring <strong>the</strong> allocation <strong>of</strong> scarce resources. Emphasis will be on<br />

<strong>the</strong> applications <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se methods in aviation, and aviation-related<br />

industries. Topics include: linear programming, probabilistic<br />

dynamic programming, game <strong>the</strong>ory, forecasting, queuing <strong>the</strong>ory,<br />

transportation, decision making under uncertainty, network<br />

models, and Markov Chains.<br />

COURSE CODE: AVMT 6005 (AM 620)<br />

TITLE: STRATEGIC MARKETING MANAGEMENT IN AVIATION<br />

NO. OF CREDITS: 3<br />

COUrSE DESCrIPTION: In this course, <strong>the</strong> traditional role <strong>of</strong><br />

marketing management is enlarged to include <strong>the</strong> development,<br />

implementation, and control <strong>of</strong> marketing strategies in <strong>the</strong><br />

dynamic aviation organisation. Emphasis is placed on <strong>the</strong><br />

application <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> strategic marketing process in <strong>the</strong> turbulent<br />

global aviation business environment. <strong>St</strong>rategic marketing<br />

decisions, analysis, and issues are integrated with <strong>the</strong> goal <strong>of</strong><br />

achieving customer satisfaction to gain a sustainable competitive<br />

advantage within <strong>the</strong> aviation industry.<br />

COURSE CODE: AVMT 6006 (AM 621)<br />

TITLE: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT<br />

NO. OF CREDITS: 3<br />

COUrSE DESCrIPTION: <strong>The</strong> main focus <strong>of</strong> this course relates to<br />

<strong>the</strong> opportunity for strategic use <strong>of</strong> Information Technology within<br />

aviation enterprises. <strong>The</strong> evolution and strategically competitive<br />

role <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information Technology function is also examined in this<br />

course. Topics include user satisfaction and demand for information,<br />

<strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> computerised Decision Support Systems,<br />

<strong>the</strong> management <strong>of</strong> Information Systems services quality, <strong>the</strong><br />

successful management <strong>of</strong> technology, <strong>the</strong> relationship between<br />

automation and productivity, data security and justification <strong>of</strong><br />

IT-related budgets. Emphasis throughout <strong>the</strong> course will be on<br />

aviation-related applications, including new technologies aimed<br />

at facilitating <strong>the</strong> processing <strong>of</strong> aircraft, passenger and cargo, and<br />

managing service levels and at increasing net revenues.<br />

COURSE CODE: AVMT 6003 (AM 622)<br />

TITLE: ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR<br />

NO. OF CREDITS: 3<br />

COUrSE DESCrIPTION: Organisation Behaviour is concerned<br />

with <strong>the</strong> behaviour and attitudes <strong>of</strong> individuals and groups in<br />

organisations and how <strong>the</strong>se organisations are structured to<br />

achieve <strong>the</strong>ir goals. <strong>The</strong> course relies heavily on <strong>the</strong> contributions <strong>of</strong><br />

psychology, sociology, and anthropology. <strong>St</strong>rong emphasis is placed<br />

on those management decisions that contribute to organisational<br />

effectiveness. Topics to be covered typically include leadership,<br />

motivation, job design, reward systems, control systems, groups<br />

dynamics, communication, decision making, conflict, organisation<br />

design, and organisation culture. <strong>The</strong> course also examines<br />

leadership and management <strong>of</strong> change issues arising from <strong>the</strong><br />

growth <strong>of</strong> market forces in <strong>the</strong> aviation system.<br />
