betueen the trustees and the faculty, tke professors were to elect not I<br />

more than three of their medsers to serve as trustees.<br />

<strong>The</strong> trustees might offer financial aid to acceptable studmts<br />

who would otherwise be unable to pursue advanced studies. Acceptance<br />

of gifts found to be incmpatible uith the purposes of the institution<br />

was 2roscribed. Its czpital was not to be impaired by expenditures<br />

<strong>for</strong> site, buildings or equfpment. Like the first drafts, this one also<br />

provided thst the donors might initiate the foundation, and contemplated<br />

their naming in the codicfl the nucleus of a board of trustees.<br />

<strong>The</strong> plan appears to have been almst wholly acceptable to<br />

Hr. Bmberger and his sister; however, they directed Flexnes to make<br />

certain changes which he considered to be extremely Important. <strong>The</strong>se<br />

eliminated the provisions <strong>for</strong> special attractions to scholars and <strong>for</strong><br />

financial aid to students, together uith a paragraph which expressed<br />

hope that the bufldings would *exercise a beneffcial effect an the<br />

architectural taste of the ~omanity.~ (This in view of the donora*<br />

apparent intention to require that the new institution be located oa<br />

a part of the thirty-acre FuLd hcmesfte could have been taken as a<br />

provisions was a clause giving the trustees discretion to change the<br />
