<strong>The</strong> Trustees, gratifSed by these evidences of conffdenee on<br />

to administer the <strong>Institute</strong> without discrimination '"directly or indirectly<br />

because of race, religion or sex." <strong>The</strong> resolution continued:<br />

scholars, <strong>The</strong> Trustees join in expressing the hope that the<br />

Founders may live long in health and happiness, observing and<br />

participating in the growth of the <strong>Institute</strong> which they have<br />

esLabliahed upon such a lofty basis and with such pure and<br />

high ideals.5<br />

Mr. Houghton was re-elected Chairman. Because of ill health,<br />

his attendance at meetings was very irregular, and Plexner <strong>for</strong>esgv that<br />

the Vice-Chairman was to be a very fmportant officer. Re and Hr. Ebass<br />

vgewed things in much the same light, and co-operated in achieving their<br />

objectives; the Director would like to see the lawyer in the neu office.<br />

Haass was not an officer in the first slate, which had been chosen by<br />

Mr. Bamberger, but he agreed infomlly to serve.
