fibre <strong>an</strong>d matrix shall be determined first <strong>an</strong>d according to ASTM International (2009a).<br />

Note: The Rules of Mixture (Equations 3.7 till 3.11) were not used in this thesis since all<br />

the elastic const<strong>an</strong>ts were based on predicted values <strong>an</strong>d they will be discussed further<br />

in the following section.<br />

The fibre volume fraction is calculated as;<br />

Where;<br />

Vf = volume fraction of fibres<br />

Wf = weight of fibres<br />

Wm = weight of matrix<br />

ρf = density of fibres<br />

ρm = density of matrix<br />

For the Density of the fibre;<br />

ρc= Mi/(A x h x 1000) (Equation 3.13)<br />

Where:<br />

Mi = mass of the specimen, g;<br />

A = area of the specimen, m 2 ; <strong>an</strong>d<br />

h = thickness of the specimen, mm.<br />

For the Weight percent of the fibre;<br />
