The Belgium Evaluation Scale of Pati<strong>en</strong>ts’ dep<strong>en</strong>d<strong>en</strong>cy in ADL activities<br />
(BESADL), 2) The Belgian Scale for eligibility to dep<strong>en</strong>d<strong>en</strong>ce allowance for<br />
elderly people (APA), 3) The Resid<strong>en</strong>t Assessm<strong>en</strong>t Instrum<strong>en</strong>t adapted for<br />
home care (RAI-HC), 4) The Gerontologic autonomy ISO resource groups<br />
system (AGGIR), 5) The Functional Autonomy Measurem<strong>en</strong>t System (SMAF).<br />
• A perfect <strong>en</strong>compassing registration tool does not exist. A trade-off has always<br />
to be made betwe<strong>en</strong> usability, precision, reliability & validity, and workload.<br />
• The use of pati<strong>en</strong>t dep<strong>en</strong>d<strong>en</strong>cy meausrem<strong>en</strong>t tools for funding purposes were<br />
rarely reported in the literature.<br />
• All methods used to record the case-mix induce an administrative workload<br />
and a risk of supply-induced demand.<br />
• The most appropriate case-mix tool should group pati<strong>en</strong>ts into standardised<br />
groups, meaning that they are estimated to consume the same amount of<br />
resources.
