GENEALOGY WITH BRIEF SKETCHES.<br />

Ancestry of <strong>Bartholomew</strong> <strong>Dupuy</strong>.<br />

Chap. III. <strong>The</strong> Pedigree of <strong>Bartholomew</strong> <strong>Dupuy</strong> which<br />

Ancestry follows is claimed by its author to have been<br />

culled from French authorities. It was com-<br />

<strong>Dupuy</strong>. Dudley Teetor, M. A., genealogist, of New<br />

York.<br />

I. In 1033, the Emperor Conrad conquered, at<br />

the head of <strong>his</strong> army, the baronies of Aries <strong>and</strong><br />

Bourgogne in Prance.<br />

Raphael DuPuy, in Latin, Podio, "gr<strong>and</strong> Chambellan<br />

de Pempire," followed him. He was one of<br />

the Governors which that Emperor appointed over<br />

<strong>his</strong> new possessions. After which, the <strong>descendants</strong><br />

of Raphael <strong>Dupuy</strong> became possessed of many<br />

estates in Languedoc <strong>and</strong> Dauphine.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Tomb of Raphael DuPuy was opened in<br />

1610 by order of M. Le Comte de la Roche, "Gouveneur<br />

de Romans en Dauphine." <strong>The</strong> corpse was<br />

found extended upon a marble table; <strong>his</strong> spurs<br />

upon one side, <strong>his</strong> sword upon the other, <strong>and</strong> upon<br />

<strong>his</strong> head a helmet of lead containing the following<br />

inscription upon a copper plate:—<br />

"Raphael de<br />

Podio, General de la Cavalerie Romaine, et Gr<strong>and</strong><br />

Chambellan de I'Empire Romaine."<br />

It is said that the "House of Du Puy en Dauphine"<br />

possesses a gold medal granted to t<strong>his</strong> Raphael<br />

Du Puy, upon one side of which is written :—<br />

"Raphael de Podio, gr<strong>and</strong> chambellan de I'Empire<br />

Romaine Sons PEmpereur, Auguste, Christ regnant<br />

en chair." Raphael was succeeded by <strong>his</strong> son :<br />

II. Hugues DuPuy 1st., Seigneur de Pereins,<br />

d'Apifer & de Rocheport. He went to the Crusades,<br />

with three of <strong>his</strong> children, <strong>and</strong> <strong>his</strong> wife Deurard de<br />

Poisseu, in 1096. He founded the Abbey d'Aiguebelle.<br />

Order of Saint Bernard, was one of the Generals<br />

of "Godefroi de Bouillon," <strong>and</strong> for <strong>his</strong> bravery
