break the record <strong>and</strong> become renegades to the<br />

long line of faith's march? Who of the <strong>descendants</strong><br />

can be content to break the glorious<br />

chain, <strong>and</strong> sever the great procession of religious<br />

life, which for more than two hundred<br />

years has marched down the track of time in<br />

a pious ancestry'? <strong>The</strong>se ancestors have verified<br />

the word, of God; "One generation shall<br />

praise <strong>his</strong> works to another." How beautiful!<br />

Shall therefore the voice of the living descenants<br />

be silent, their thought idle, <strong>and</strong> their<br />

heart cold <strong>and</strong> dead to the God of their<br />

fathers? No. <strong>The</strong>y will be influenced by the<br />

unfeigned faith of their ancestors, <strong>and</strong> not mar<br />

their good name by unbelief. We urge t<strong>his</strong> as<br />

a special duty on the younger <strong>descendants</strong>,<br />

that they may not only experience the joy <strong>and</strong><br />

freedom, which such a hallowed faith begets,<br />

but may also know what a noble heritage they<br />

have in their ancestry, who suffered exile<br />

before they would bow the knee to Rome. We<br />

do not msh our young kindred to become<br />

bigots, or to hate the Catholic Church. But<br />

we would have them know how much their<br />

ancestors had a right to their love <strong>and</strong> religious<br />

faith, <strong>and</strong> we would have them love the<br />

religion of their fathers the best because it is<br />

their own. Protestantism is their mother<br />

church, <strong>and</strong> they should love it best as they<br />

love their own mother. <strong>The</strong>y should be true to<br />

its religion, as long as it is true to Christ, <strong>and</strong><br />

give to it the unwasted strength of their<br />

youth. <strong>The</strong>y should endeavor to add some<br />

new leaves to the unfading chaplet of their ancestor's<br />

religion which has marked the many
