Chap. Il l, father, Anthony Trabue, had an estate, but con-<br />

<strong>Dupuy</strong>. eluded he would leave it if he could possibly make<br />

<strong>his</strong> escape. He was a very young man <strong>and</strong> he <strong>and</strong><br />

another young man took a cart, <strong>and</strong> loaded it with<br />

wine, <strong>and</strong> went on to sell it to the farthermost<br />

guard; <strong>and</strong> when night came on, they left their<br />

horses <strong>and</strong> cart, <strong>and</strong> made their escape to an English<br />

ship, which took them on board, <strong>and</strong> they went<br />

to Engl<strong>and</strong>, leaving their estates, native country,<br />

relatives, <strong>and</strong> everything, for the sake of Jesus who<br />

died for them." (Richmond St<strong>and</strong>ard, May 10-19,<br />

1879, by R. A. Brock, Esq., Sec. Va. Hist'l Society).<br />

Other family tradition states that he went first to<br />

Holl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> thence to Engl<strong>and</strong>. In the Virginia<br />

L<strong>and</strong> Registry are the following records : "Anthony<br />

Trabue, Mar. 18, 1717, 522 acres, on the great fork<br />

of Swift creek; Anthony Trabue, Mar. 23, 1715, 163<br />

acres. South Side James river, Henrico Co., Va.";<br />

<strong>his</strong> <strong>descendants</strong> Page, 335<br />

III. Susanna^<strong>Dupuy</strong>, b.. King William Parish,<br />

Va., Apr. 25, 1734, (B. R. No. 18) d. before ; 1775,<br />

( See will of her father) m. James ; Lockett, d. later<br />

that 1775. Issue :<br />

four were legatees in their gr<strong>and</strong>father's will,<br />

herein recorded, but of their posterity the author<br />
