Chap, n i. Thomas, was born the same year. As they were<br />

<strong>Dupuy</strong>. about to set sail for their return to Virginia, Pocahontas<br />

died <strong>and</strong> was buried in the chancel of St.<br />

Mary's church, Gravesend, Mar. 21, 1617. Rolfe<br />

left <strong>his</strong> infant son at Plymouth under the care of<br />

Sir Lewis Stukeley, but afterwards he was transferred<br />

to <strong>his</strong> uncle, Henry Rolfe, of London, with<br />

whom he remained until manhood. John Rolfe<br />

married thirdly, about 1620, Jane, daughter of<br />

Capt. William Pierce, of Virginia, <strong>and</strong> had a daugliter,<br />

Elizabeth, born 1620. At different times he<br />

was Secretary <strong>and</strong> Recorder General of the Colony<br />

<strong>and</strong> a member of the council, <strong>and</strong> is spoken of by<br />

all the early w^riters who mention him as an honest<br />

<strong>and</strong> worthy gentleman. He died in March 1622.<br />

His son, Thomas, after reaching manhood, under<br />

<strong>his</strong> uncle Henry in London, came to Virginia; was<br />

permitted by the governor<br />

in 1641 to visit <strong>his</strong><br />

Indian relatives, <strong>his</strong> aunt Cleopatre <strong>and</strong> Kinsman,<br />

Opechancanough ; was a lieutenant in 1646 ; <strong>and</strong> between<br />

1646-63 patented a number of tracts of l<strong>and</strong>,<br />

<strong>and</strong> became a man of wealth. He married Miss<br />

Poytress (doubtless a daughter of Francis Poytress),<br />

<strong>and</strong> through him are the <strong>descendants</strong> of<br />

Pocahontas. <strong>The</strong>ir only child, Jane Rolfe, married<br />

Col. Robert Boiling, of Kippax, Prince George;<br />

<strong>The</strong>ir only child. Major John Boiling, married Miss<br />

Kennon ; <strong>The</strong>y had one son <strong>and</strong> five daughters ; the<br />

son. Col. John Boiling, married Miss Blair, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

daughters married respectively, Richard R<strong>and</strong>olph,<br />

Col. Fleming, Dr. William Gay, James Murray,<br />

<strong>and</strong> Thomas Eldridge, who was the father of<br />

Thomas, who was the father of Dr. <strong>Dupuy</strong>'s wife]<br />
