HADM 315 Staff<br />

(D)Cultural Diversity and 3 credits<br />

Health Administration<br />

Focuses on the effects <strong>of</strong> cultural diversity on<br />

healthcare administration. Emphasis is placed on<br />

the importance <strong>of</strong> assessing and addressing the<br />

healthcare needs <strong>of</strong> various cultural groups within a<br />

given healthcare service area. For HADM majors<br />

and HADM minors only.<br />

HADM 316 Staff<br />

Health Care Marketing 3 credits<br />

Marketing theories, concepts, strategies, methods,<br />

and techniques are studied and applied to health<br />

care. <strong>The</strong> unique aspects <strong>of</strong> health care, services,<br />

and health care organizations are considered as they<br />

pertain to marketing.<br />

HADM 317 Staff<br />

Workforce Development 3 credits<br />

Training and development needs <strong>of</strong> employees<br />

within various health care delivery systems will be<br />

examined. Adult learning theories and the role <strong>of</strong><br />

the training function will be critically reviewed. An<br />

in-depth study and application <strong>of</strong> the training<br />

process will require students to design, develop,<br />

implement, and evaluate a training program.<br />

HADM 318 Staff<br />

Long Term Care Administration 3 credits<br />

Designed to introduce the student to Long Term<br />

Care (LTC) facility administration. Emphasis is<br />

placed on the differences between acute and longterm<br />

levels <strong>of</strong> care, types <strong>of</strong> LTC facilities, and special<br />

concerns involving the LTC resident.<br />

HADM 340 Staff<br />

Career Seminar 1 credit<br />

(Majors only) Seminar in which students appraise<br />

their present status and develop specific written<br />

educational and career plans for future coursework,<br />

career entry, and/or graduate school.<br />

HADM 380 Staff<br />

Internship in Health Administration 3 credits<br />

(Prerequisites: HADM 340, 18 HADM credits or<br />

approval <strong>of</strong> Prog. Director) <strong>The</strong> internship, a significant<br />

educational experience, ends the third year<br />

and involves a supervised practical experience in a<br />

community agency/organization providing health<br />

services. It provides both practical experience and<br />

an opportunity to integrate knowledge into a working<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional philosophy. Students will spend a<br />

minimum <strong>of</strong> 120 hours in the field and a minimum<br />

<strong>of</strong> 18 hours in on-campus staffing sessions.<br />

Prerequisite for HADM 481. Students must provide<br />

their own transportation. Graded S or U.<br />

HADM 441 Staff<br />

Issues in Health Care Administration 3 credits<br />

Seniors only. A capstone course in which students<br />

demonstrate knowledge attained throughout the<br />

HADM curriculum as well as the ability to apply<br />

that knowledge in a practical manner through completion<br />

<strong>of</strong> a “mega case study”, utilizing a small<br />

administrative group/team approach.<br />

HADM 480 Staff<br />

Internship in Long-Term Care 3 credits<br />

Administration<br />

(Prerequisite: approval <strong>of</strong> HADM director) <strong>The</strong><br />

internship is a significant educational capstone<br />

experience that involves a supervised practical<br />

experience in a licensed long-term care facility. It<br />

provides both a practical experience in the student’s<br />

field and an opportunity to integrate knowledge<br />

from a variety <strong>of</strong> courses into a working pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

philosophy. Students will spend 520 hours in the<br />

field placement and 15 hours <strong>of</strong> on-campus seminars.<br />

Students must accumulate 1040 hours <strong>of</strong><br />

internship experience by taking HADM 480 in both<br />

the fall and spring semesters <strong>of</strong> their senior year.<br />

Students must provide their own transportation.<br />

Graded S or U.<br />

HADM 481 Staff<br />

Internship in Health Administration 3 credits<br />

(Prerequisite: HADM 380) This second internship<br />

involves 150 hours in a community agency or organization<br />

providing health services; it may be taken<br />

during any regular academic term and may be completed<br />

outside the immediate <strong>University</strong> region.<br />

Approval by Program Director is required. Students<br />

must provide their own transportation. Graded S or<br />

U.
