Applicants without high school credit in modern languages may be accepted if they present<br />

16 acceptable units. A single year <strong>of</strong> language in high school will not be counted as a unit to<br />

satisfy the requirements for admission.<br />

Mathematics include elementary, intermediate, and advanced algebra, plane and solid<br />

geometry; trigonometry, analysis, and any other college preparatory course. Applicants for science<br />

and engineering programs must include trigonometry and must have maintained an 85%<br />

average in each mathematics course. Applicants for the nursing programs should include chemistry<br />

and biology in their high school program.<br />

Science includes biology, chemistry, physics, and other college preparatory courses. Preengineering<br />

applicants are urged to include physics in their high school preparation.<br />

ADVANCED PLACEMENT<br />

Applicants who have taken college level courses may be given advanced placement or<br />

advanced placement with credit for these courses. Students who have been accepted for admission<br />

and desire to apply for such placement must take the Advanced Placement Examination<br />

<strong>of</strong>fered in May by the College Entrance Examination Board, Princeton, New Jersey 08540.<br />

Ordinarily a score <strong>of</strong> “3” (non-science) or “4” (math/science) will insure advanced placement<br />

with credit.<br />

COLLEGE LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM<br />

Through the CLEP tests, taken before admission, applicants may gain college credit in most<br />

academic subjects for work done outside the classroom in jobs, military service, etc., or in nonaccredited<br />

institutions. For further information contact: College Level Examination Program,<br />

Box 1824, Princeton, New Jersey 08540. Students wishing to be considered for CLEP credits<br />

should take the CLEP examinations and have the results forwarded to the Dean <strong>of</strong> Admissions.<br />

ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM<br />

Applicants who fail to meet all <strong>of</strong> the admission requirements may be considered for a special<br />

freshman year Academic Development Program concentrating on English, logical thinking,<br />

reading skills, study habits, as well as work in the student’s major field. Satisfactory completion<br />

<strong>of</strong> the ADP program will insure the student normal sophomore standing.<br />

STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> complies with all applicable laws and regulations with the<br />

respect to the accommodation <strong>of</strong> handicaps and disabilities as these terms are defined in the<br />

law. <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> will provide reasonable accommodations so students can fully participate<br />

in curricular and extracurricular activities. Students who need assistance should contact the<br />

Affirmative Action Office (717) 941-7580 on a timely basis.<br />

TRANSFER STUDENTS<br />

Students who wish to transfer to the <strong>University</strong> must submit an application and the usual<br />

credentials (<strong>of</strong>ficial high school record, SAT scores and transcript(s) from the college(s) attended).<br />

At the discretion <strong>of</strong> the Admissions Committee, students from another accredited college<br />

may be admitted provided: (1) <strong>The</strong> courses to be transferred are equivalent to courses <strong>of</strong>fered at<br />

the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>; (2) the academic average <strong>of</strong> the candidate is (2.5) “C plus,” (3) certification<br />

<strong>of</strong> honorable dismissal is presented from the previous college. No credit will be given<br />

to courses with grades less than “C”. Students transferring from other institutions shall be<br />

required to make up curricular subjects prescribed in the course which they are to follow at the<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>. A minimum <strong>of</strong> 63 credits at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> is required <strong>of</strong><br />

transfer students for degree eligibility. Special orientation sessions are held for transfer students.<br />

It should be noted that some departments require that at least half <strong>of</strong> the credits in the<br />

student’s major be taken here at the <strong>University</strong>. <strong>The</strong> respective Dean should be contacted.<br />

VALIDATION OF TRANSFER COURSES<br />

Permission to validate School <strong>of</strong> Management courses by successfully completing one or<br />

more advanced courses in the subject for which the course in transfer is a foundation can be<br />

granted by the SOM dean. This applies only to lower division transfer courses which the<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers at the upper division level. (No fee charges.)<br />
