THE CAS ACADEMIC ADVISING CENTER—<strong>The</strong> Academic Advising Center,<br />

located in 309 St. Thomas Hall, serves all freshmen in the College <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences. Staffed<br />

by faculty advisors from a wide variety <strong>of</strong> disciplines, the Academic Advising Center <strong>of</strong>fers a<br />

comprehensive program <strong>of</strong> academic advising throughout the freshman year. In addition to<br />

individual advising, the Academic Advising Center also <strong>of</strong>fers specialized Freshman Seminars<br />

for students in the general areas <strong>of</strong> Humanities, Natural Science, and Social Science. Faculty<br />

advisors are available to students from 8:30-4:30 Monday through Friday; they provide assistance<br />

with orientation, preregistration, drop-add, general education course selection, declaration<br />

and change <strong>of</strong> major, and assessment <strong>of</strong> academic performance and goals.<br />

THE CHEHR ACADEMIC ADVISING CENTER—<strong>The</strong> Academic Advising Center,<br />

located on the third floor <strong>of</strong> Leahy Hall, currently serves freshmen and sophomores in the<br />

College <strong>of</strong> Health, Education and Human Resources. Staff are available, during the academic<br />

year, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to provide individual assistance with<br />

academic advising, registration, assessment <strong>of</strong> academic performance and career goals. <strong>The</strong><br />

Center also works closely with other campus resources to provide comprehensive advisement<br />

opportunities. Junior and Senior students normally are advised by departmental advisors, but<br />

are welcome to use some <strong>of</strong> the services <strong>of</strong>fered by the CHEHR Center.<br />

THE SOM ACADEMIC ADVISING CENTER—<strong>The</strong> Academic Advising Center,<br />

located in O’Hara Hall Suite 406, serves all students in the School <strong>of</strong> Management. Staff<br />

Advisors are available from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, to provide assistance<br />

with pre-registration, major and general education course selection, and assessment <strong>of</strong> academic<br />

performance and goals. Specialized seminars are presented for the field-declared business freshmen.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se seminars provide the information necessary for a student to make an informed decision<br />

as to a choice <strong>of</strong> major. <strong>The</strong>y also emphasize the <strong>University</strong> resources available to all students<br />

in planning for a business career. <strong>The</strong> seminars are mandatory for field-declared business<br />

students and open to all SOM students and others interested in SOM programs.<br />

THE LEARNING RESOURCES CENTER—<strong>The</strong> Learning Resources Center is located<br />

on the main floor <strong>of</strong> Alumni Memorial Hall. <strong>The</strong> LRC was established to help students accomplish<br />

their academic goals at the <strong>University</strong>. <strong>The</strong> LRC provides services to supplement those<br />

<strong>of</strong>fered in the classroom. <strong>The</strong> Center is staffed by pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff and peer tutors. LRC staff,<br />

utilizing individualized, group, and computer-assisted instruction, provide assistance with oral<br />

and written communication skills, study skills, critical thinking skills, academic evaluation and<br />

study help in specific courses. Academic services are available for diagnosed learning disabled<br />

students. A Reading Specialist is also on staff for testing and consultation. Assistance is available<br />

on a drop-in or referral basis. Services are provided to students with learning disabilities in<br />

compliance with section 504 <strong>of</strong> the Rehabilitation Act.<br />

CAREER SERVICES—is located on the second floor <strong>of</strong> the Gallery and is open from<br />

8:30 AM - 6:30 PM Monday through Thursday and from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM on Friday. Career<br />

Services staff advise students on career development issues, assist students and graduates in<br />

securing employment, and help students plan for further academic work following graduation.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice also conducts the on-campus employment interview program, administers the<br />

accounting internship program, and helps in locating <strong>of</strong>f-campus part-time employment and<br />

internship opportunities through its Career Related Work Experience program.<br />

During the academic year, the <strong>of</strong>fice presents workshops on resume/interview preparation<br />

and career planning. A career library containing occupational information and graduate school<br />

catalogs is also available. Additional information is available through our home page at<br />
