Credit Requirements:<br />

Full-time students are expected to complete their undergraduate degree within six academic years. Part-time<br />

students are allotted a period <strong>of</strong> time that shall not exceed twelve academic years. Full-time students must complete<br />

a minimum <strong>of</strong> 24 credits during the year; three-quarter time students, 18 credits; and half-time students, 12<br />

credits. Students enrolled for a combination <strong>of</strong> full and part-time must earn a proportionate amount <strong>of</strong> credits.<br />

Academic Requirements:<br />

All students must maintain a cumulative G.P.A. <strong>of</strong> 2.00 in order to demonstrate satisfactory academic<br />

standing. Academic Scholarship recipients are required to maintain a cumulative G.P.A. <strong>of</strong> 3.00.<br />

Students should consult the Comprehensive Guide to Financial Aid for a full definition <strong>of</strong> Satisfactory<br />

Progress Standards and the appeals process. Copies are available at the Financial Aid Office.<br />

<strong>The</strong> following financial aid programs are available:<br />

LOANS:<br />

FEDERAL PERKINS LOAN PROGRAM. <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> administers this Federal program<br />

which provides 5% interest loans to needy students. A FAFSA Application is required <strong>of</strong> all<br />

loan applicants.<br />

FEDERAL STAFFORD LOAN PROGRAM is available in cooperation with community<br />

banks, credit unions, and savings and loan associations. Applications should be obtained from<br />

your lender. <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>’s preferred lender is PNC Bank. Freshmen may borrow<br />

a maximum <strong>of</strong> $2,625, Sophomores — $3,500, and Juniors and Seniors - $5,500 per academic<br />

grade level. <strong>The</strong> aggregate maximum for undergraduate study is $23,000. Depending on their<br />

grade level, independent students may borrow $4000-$5000 in unsubsidized Stafford loans.<br />

FEDERAL PLUS PARENT LOAN is available for parents <strong>of</strong> dependent students. Credit<br />

worthy parents are able to borrow up to the difference between a student’s cost <strong>of</strong> attendance<br />

less total other financial aid. Additional details and applications are available from community<br />

lending institutions.<br />

THE PENNSYLVANIA HIGHER EDUCATION ASSISTANCE AGENCY has been designated<br />

by the General Assembly to administer the State Grant Program. Students may be<br />

awarded from $200 to $2,700 per year. A FAFSA application must be filed by May 1.<br />

FEDERAL SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY GRANT is a federal<br />

campus-based program awarded by the <strong>University</strong>. Amounts may range from $200-$2,500 per<br />

year to students who demonstrate exceptional need. Priority is given to Pell recipients. A<br />

FAFSA Application is required for this program.<br />

THE FEDERAL PELL GRANT provides Federal grants, ranging from $400 to $2,700 per<br />

academic year, based on financial need. A FAFSA application is required.<br />

UNIVERSITY OF SCRANTON AWARDS<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers a number <strong>of</strong> awards to students based on academic merit and financial<br />

need. All accepted freshmen are automatically evaluated for scholarship aid. In order to be considered<br />

for need-based aid, students must file a FAFSA and either the <strong>University</strong> Application<br />

for Financial Aid or the CSS Pr<strong>of</strong>ile.<br />

OTHER PROGRAMS:<br />

THE FEDERAL WORK-STUDY PROGRAM is a federal campus-based program that provides<br />

employment during the academic year and the summer for students demonstrating financial<br />

need. <strong>The</strong> majority <strong>of</strong> the jobs are on-campus positions in various departments and administrative<br />

<strong>of</strong>fices. Some jobs, both on and <strong>of</strong>f campus, involve community service. Students<br />

seeking campus employment must file a FAFSA Application and Work-Study Application.<br />

VETERANS BENEFITS — Veterans and eligible dependents should consult with their local<br />

Veterans Administration counselor in order to establish their eligibility for participation. <strong>The</strong><br />

Office <strong>of</strong> the Registrar certifies enrollment for eligible veterans with the Veterans<br />

Administration (VA form 22-1999).<br />

U.S. ARMY ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS are available. Full details may be secured by contacting<br />

the Military Science Department in Rock Hall (ph. 941-7457 or 941-6336). Approximately<br />

85% <strong>of</strong> cadets are awarded scholarships, worth up to $60,000.<br />

<strong>The</strong> UNITED STATES AIR FORCE RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING CORPS <strong>of</strong>fers many<br />

2- TO -5-year, full and partial tuition scholarships for which qualified students may compete, if<br />
