Starting and Operating Your Vehicle Starting Your Vehicle The diesel engine starts differently than a gasoline engine. CAUTION: Do not use gasoline or starting “aids,” such as ether, in the air intake. They could damage the engine. There could also be a fire, which could cause serious personal injury. Vehicle Load Disconnect Switch The vehicle is equipped with a load disconnect switch, the switch disconnects 12-volt vehicle loads and 24-volt trailer/aux loads that could cause a parasitic drain on the batteries. Notice: If you will not be using your vehicle for a period of 48 hours or more, you will need to place the switch in the OFF position to prevent the batteries from discharging. Continued discharging could damage the batteries. When this switch is in the OFF position the main battery feeds to the starter and NATO jump start connector remain powered. Refer to the 2006 Duramax Diesel Engine Owner’s Manual Supplement, located in the glove compartment. 2-3
Accessory Power 24-Volt The load disconnect switch (A) is located under the accessory panel. The switch should be placed in the OFF position any time the expected vehicle storage time is to exceed 48 hours. Your vehicle may be equipped with a 24-volt Accessory Power circuit. The connector (A) is located in the engine compartment on the driver’s side rear corner of the vehicle, under the fender support brace (B). The circuit is identified with a label stating 24V AUX. The circuit is protected by a 25 amp fuse. The accessory side of the connector is supplied, the terminal for that connector will be needed. Contact ® your GM Goodwrench dealer for this part. 2-4
