Vaccination<br />

The definitions <strong>of</strong> vaccination status, vaccination confirmation<br />

<strong>and</strong> vaccine failure are shown in Table 2.<br />

Populations under surveillance<br />

There were differences in populations under surveillance<br />

between jurisdictions in the collection<br />

<strong>of</strong> enhanced IPD data. The age groups for whom<br />

enhanced data were collected for 2004 are shown<br />

in Table 3.<br />

Data were analysed by date <strong>of</strong> diagnosis which was<br />

the earliest date recorded <strong>of</strong> date <strong>of</strong> onset, specimen<br />

date, notifi cation date, or notifi cation received date.<br />

The notifi cation rates presented in this report were<br />

calculated using population data from the Australian<br />

Bureau <strong>of</strong> Statistics (ABS). The Estimated Resident<br />

Population (ABS 3201.0) in each state <strong>and</strong> territory<br />

<strong>and</strong> in Australia as a whole, as at 30 June 2004,<br />

was used as the denominator in rate calculations.<br />
