Rural Nodes<br />
The average stillbirth rate in the rural nodes in <strong>2006</strong>/<strong>07</strong> was 26.7 per<br />
1 000, higher than the national average of 24.0, although five of the 12<br />
rural districts, Umkhanyakude, Chris Hani, Ukhahlamba, Zululand and Alfred<br />
Nzo were below the SA average. The district with the highest stillbirth rate<br />
was O.R. Tambo in the Eastern Cape, with a rate of 34.1 stillbirths per<br />
1 000. Umkhanyakude (KZN) had the lowest stillbirth rate of 18.4 in the<br />
rural nodes.<br />
