NMR MULTIPOLE RELAXATION<br />

IN THE ROTATING FRAME<br />

We consider NMR multipole relaxation for a system of two identical nuclear<br />

quadrupole spins I 1 = I 2 = 7, with a total spin I = I 1 + I 2 in gaseous state, in the presence of<br />

electric quadrupole and magnetic dipole - dipole interactions in a rotating tilted frame. The<br />

multipole relaxation times T LMρ are calculated for a maximal multipole order L = L max = 2I<br />

= 28 and M-quantum coherences, with M = 28 and 0, in a weak collision approximation<br />

[1-3], as a function of temperature, frequency and the tilt angle β between the external<br />

magnetic field B o and effective field B e in the rotating frame. These calculations are also<br />

extended for two spin systems of 176 Lu 2 O 3 in a liquid and solid state. The multipole<br />

relaxation times in the rotating frame are compared with relaxation times for dipolar orders<br />

[4-9] and they may be used for investigations of slow molecular motions in gases, liquids<br />

and solids.<br />
