Your CV should be:<br />

• clear - use headings <strong>and</strong> spaces to divide the information<br />

• short - one or two sides only<br />

• truthful - or you may get caught out later<br />

• positive - it’s a sales document <strong>and</strong> the product is you!<br />

Look for:<br />

Step by step help with CVs<br />

A CV should outline your career, education <strong>and</strong> work experience to date.<br />

Include:<br />

a personal profile - two or three sentences to sum up your skills <strong>and</strong><br />

career aims see, page 57.<br />

your education details in date order, most recent first. List exams you are<br />

due to take or are awaiting results for. If you haven’t taken exams in some<br />

subjects write ‘Subjects studied’ as a heading <strong>and</strong> list them.<br />

any work/work experience, don’t forget part-time <strong>and</strong> holiday jobs. Try<br />

to include details about the sort of work you have done.<br />

your interests, especially those that show your motivation, initiative <strong>and</strong><br />

commitment.<br />

two referees to write a reference or letter, when asked, which says what<br />

he or she thinks about your ability, skills <strong>and</strong> character. One should be<br />

your headteacher <strong>and</strong> the other someone who knows you well - not a<br />

relative or friend. Do ASK them first.<br />

If possible get a teacher or PA to check your CV with you before you send<br />

it out.<br />
