Don’t panic, follow these tips! Remember, the interviewer has already<br />
seen your CV or application form <strong>and</strong> thinks you may be suitable.<br />
Preparation is vital for success.<br />
Do. . .<br />
• tell them you are coming!<br />
• be on time - check bus or train times <strong>and</strong> allow a bit of extra time. Not<br />
sure where it is? Ring <strong>and</strong> ask for directions<br />
• go on your own<br />
• be polite when you arrive <strong>and</strong> make sure you know the name of the<br />
person you are going to see<br />
• be neat, tidy <strong>and</strong> clean<br />
• read the job specification <strong>and</strong> your application again to remind yourself<br />
of the skills they want<br />
• listen to questions carefully - ask if they are not clear. Look on the next<br />
page for sample questions<br />
• ask questions - ones about training or the job may impress<br />
• avoid giving yes <strong>and</strong> no answers<br />
• try to keep eye contact - look at the interviewer, not the floor!<br />
• speak clearly<br />
• sit up straight<br />
• be truthful<br />
• take your school report if appropriate<br />
• smile <strong>and</strong> try to look confident<br />
First impressions mean a lot<br />
When you leave, thank the interviewer <strong>and</strong> if necessary, ask when they<br />
will let you know if you have been successful.<br />
