into the inside of the snail (Marschner et al., 2012; 2013). Furthermore, the<br />

3D models of the PtCl 2 -exposed snails show that, during further growth, the<br />

digestive gland pushes the mantle epithelium ventrad until digestive gland,<br />

mantle, and internal shell (not shown in the models) protrude out of the ring<br />

formed by shell gland and mantle edge.<br />
