4.6 Heritage
Existing Situation
A search for non-Aboriginal heritage items was completed by consulting the following
databases: Rockdale Local Environmental Plan (LEP), State Heritage Register, State Heritage
Inventory, Australian Heritage Database, (including Commonwealth Register of the National
Estate), World heritage sites and RailCorp‘s Section 170 Heritage and Conservation Register.
The Heritage Branch online database identifies the Kingsgrove Railway Station Group as being
listed by Local Councils and Shires and State Government Agencies (Refer to Appendix 3). The
listing includes the station building and platform. There are no other heritage items located in
the vicinity of the proposal (Refer to Appendix 3).
A search for known items of Aboriginal heritage value was undertaken for the proposal site,
(with a 200 metre buffer) using the Office of Environment and Heritage‘s Aboriginal Heritage
Information Management System (AHIMS). No Aboriginal sites or places were found at the
proposal location or in the surrounds (Refer to Appendix 3).
Potential Impacts
The monopole will introduce a new element into the visual environment (Refer to visual impacts
in Section 4.10) and will be visible from Kingsgrove Road, Kingsgrove Avenue, Commercial
Street, York Street and Shaw Street. However, the monopole will not interrupt or block views of
any heritage listed items.
The construction works will not impact any known items of Aboriginal heritage significance.
The potential to uncover unidentified Aboriginal heritage items is low. The site is located in an
area that has been disturbed previously. However, there is some potential for previously
unidentified items to be uncovered during construction.
