Domestic Crop and Livestock<br />
Approximately 3 740 hectares <strong>of</strong> crops were damaged, and approximately 1.8 per cent <strong>of</strong> the<br />
202 727 hectares <strong>of</strong> Active Farmlands 15 . Some 1 448 hectares (38.7 per cent) was in the<br />
parish <strong>of</strong> St. Elizabeth, the Bread Basket parish, which produces the bulk <strong>of</strong> fruits and<br />
vegetables. It is important to note that during 2009, St. Elizabeth accounted for 32.4 per cent<br />
<strong>of</strong> the total hectares <strong>of</strong> Domestic Crops reaped (9 724.9 hectares). Approximately 16 895<br />
domestic crop farmers were affected. Table 14 provides an estimate <strong>of</strong> the area damaged in<br />
hectares by parish, major crop categories and value. Farmers in St. Elizabeth, Clarendon and<br />
St. Mary were most impacted with damage to crops accounting for 16.46, 15.76, and 14.11<br />
