The Montego Bay Resort Area experienced moderate impact affected with few damage to<br />
properties and other infrastructure. Some properties experienced structural damage while<br />
others reported leaking ro<strong>of</strong>s and flooding. Among the problems reported were:<br />

heavy silt build up on some properties;<br />
flood damage to landscapes; and<br />
fallen trees and debris on most properties.<br />
Loss<br />
Preliminary cost <strong>of</strong> losses is put at $88.32 million (Table 21). Losses caused by <strong>Tropical</strong><br />
<strong>Storm</strong> <strong>Nicole</strong> to <strong>Jamaica</strong>’s tourism sector includes:<br />
lower hotel occupancy;<br />
lower tourism revenues, including food and beverages, local transport and<br />
recreation;<br />
cost incurred by some hotels to find alternative energy supply due to lack <strong>of</strong><br />
electricity after the weather events;<br />
loss <strong>of</strong> business due to the blocking <strong>of</strong> some road by floods, landslides, fallen trees<br />
and other debris; and<br />
cost incurred to <strong>of</strong>f-set loss <strong>of</strong> communication services, electricity and water .<br />
