No bad relationship codes in the upper range, or<br />

The count matched the screener age count.<br />

• The household size was greater than 1 <strong>and</strong> nonmissing on both sides.<br />

2. The counts might have agreed even though the above conditions were not met. The<br />

count could still have been set to one of the sides if any one of the following<br />

conditions was true:<br />

• If the number of children matched across both rosters <strong>and</strong> the screener for both<br />

the upper <strong>and</strong> lower age ranges, or<br />

• If the count was 0 <strong>and</strong> one of the following two conditions was true:<br />

Neither side had bad relationship codes or ages, or<br />

The number of household members aged 26 or older in the screener roster was<br />

zero.<br />

3. If one pair member did not have a valid roster but the other member did, the final<br />

count was set to the other pair member's count under the following conditions:<br />

• No bad relationship codes within the lower age range when the count was 0.<br />

• Either:<br />

−<br />

−<br />

−<br />

There were no bad relationship codes within the upper age range,<br />

The count was equal to the screener age count within the upper age range, or<br />

The count was 0, <strong>and</strong> the count of household members in the lower age range<br />

was 0.<br />

4. If one pair member did not have a valid roster but the other member did, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

above conditions were not met, it was still possible to use the other pair member's<br />

count under the following conditions:<br />

• The count was 0,<br />

• The number of children in either the lower or upper age ranges was 0 with no bad<br />

ages in the roster<br />

5. If neither pair member had a valid roster, it was occasionally still possible to assign a<br />

final count. If the number of children in the screener roster in either the lower or<br />

upper age ranges was zero <strong>and</strong> the screener roster was valid, then it was not possible<br />

for a sibling-sibling pair in the relevant age ranges to be selected <strong>and</strong> the final count<br />

to be set to 0.<br />

6. When two different sets of siblings were in the household, the determination of the<br />

final count had to be treated separately. The two sets of siblings refer to siblings<br />

where both parents from one set differ from the parents of the other set. The sum of<br />
