The Council strongly supports national<br />
and international incentives for limiting<br />
emissions of greenhouse gases and<br />
encouraging the development of renewable<br />
energy resources. The planning and land<br />
use policies in the development plan are<br />
intended to promote efficiency in the use of<br />
energy, transport and natural resources.<br />
The National Development <strong>Plan</strong> 2000<br />
– 2006 acknowledges the potential that the<br />
development of alternative and renewable<br />
energies has to contribute to sustainable<br />
development.<br />
The City Council will support national<br />
and local initiatives in the development<br />
of renewable energy resources. The City<br />
Council will support the development of a<br />
sustainable energy policy both locally and<br />
regionally.<br />
Wexford County Council recognises the need<br />
to reduce dependence on fossil fuels for<br />
energy generation, and is committed to<br />
supporting the development of renewable<br />
energy resources and increasing the use<br />
of renewable energy in all new building<br />
projects within the County.<br />
The Council will seek to respond positively to<br />
applications for biomass or waste to energy projects<br />
in the context of a sustainable energy policy.<br />
To encourage the sustainable development<br />
of resources in rural areas to foster economic<br />
development in such sectors as agriculture, tourism<br />
including agri-tourism, forestry, farm diversification,<br />
and renewable energy resources.<br />
Policy Inf. 12 To promote and facilitate the use of<br />
renewable energy sources (e.g. solar heating; wind<br />
energy; wood fuels; biofuels; anaerobic digestion<br />
and landfill gas) and energy efficient technologies<br />
throughout the County.<br />
Policy Inf. 33 To encourage the use of biomass and<br />
pellet boilers in all new developments<br />
Policy Inf. 34 To facilitate the development of<br />
Biofuel facilities in appropriate locations subject<br />
to satisfying all appropriate planning, amenity,<br />
