6.3. Energy Resource from Forestry in the <strong>South</strong>-<strong>East</strong> Region<br />
The <strong>South</strong>-<strong>East</strong> Region has a significant energy potential in its wood resource.<br />
The proper management of this resource as an energy source would yield a number of benefits, including:<br />
• Encouragement of rural development and<br />
employment in producing wood fuel to meet<br />
the increased market demands<br />
• Improvement of indigenous wood supply<br />
chains<br />
• Substitution of fossil fuels and consequently<br />
a reduction in the emissions of greenhouse<br />
gases<br />
• Enhancement of the security of the Region’s<br />
energy supplies.<br />
