be invited to attend the ceremony: a ticket system applies <strong>for</strong> everyone to<br />

prevent overcrowding. No charge is made <strong>for</strong> tickets.<br />

Graduands are required to attend a rehearsal in the <strong>College</strong> chapel.<br />

During this ceremony one <strong>of</strong> the Fellows will examine the graduands’ dress<br />

to ensure that it con<strong>for</strong>ms to the requirements <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

Cambridge. After the rehearsal and inspection <strong>of</strong> dress, the Praelector will<br />

lead the graduands to the Senate House.<br />

<strong>Members</strong> <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong> may graduate in person or in absentia. Should a<br />

student not wish to receive his or her degree in person, the Praelector is<br />

authorised to receive the degree by proxy at a Congregation, but students<br />

are asked to notify the Praelector <strong>of</strong> their plans well in advance via the<br />

Tutorial Office. The <strong>College</strong> makes no charge <strong>for</strong> the receiving <strong>of</strong> degrees.<br />

A student who has not fully paid all <strong>College</strong> bills is not eligible to receive<br />

his/her degree.<br />

2.11 DEGREE CELEBRATIONS<br />

For members taking degrees, the <strong>College</strong> arranges a small celebration<br />

be<strong>for</strong>e the ceremony. This generally takes the <strong>for</strong>m <strong>of</strong> a light buffet lunch.<br />

The timetable <strong>for</strong> graduations is arranged by the <strong>University</strong>. When the<br />

<strong>College</strong> is presenting its candidates in the late afternoon or early evening,<br />

afternoon tea may be served instead <strong>of</strong> lunch. Graduands will be in<strong>for</strong>med<br />

<strong>of</strong> arrangements by the Praelector.<br />

Graduands may invite Fellows, Directors <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>udies and supervisors in<br />

addition to their spouses and up to three personal guests. A charge is made<br />

<strong>for</strong> personal guests exceeding the permitted number. The Praelector will<br />

advise on details. Those graduating on general admission are invited to<br />

attend the graduands’ guest dinner with one guest on Friday 29 June 2007<br />

at the <strong>College</strong>’s expense.<br />

2.12 COLLEGE TEACHING<br />

Graduate members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong> may wish to know that opportunities<br />

occasionally exist <strong>for</strong> them to give some <strong>College</strong> supervision either in <strong>St</strong><br />

Edmund’s or in other <strong>College</strong>s. Further in<strong>for</strong>mation may be obtained from<br />

the Senior Tutor.<br />

2.13 ACADEMIC AND PERSONAL AWARDS<br />

The <strong>College</strong> has at its disposal various funds <strong>for</strong> awards and travel<br />

grants, and <strong>for</strong> the assistance <strong>of</strong> students in cases <strong>of</strong> hardship. Applications<br />

<strong>for</strong> these and <strong>for</strong> grants <strong>for</strong> approved courses and conferences and<br />

fieldwork should be made well in advance through the applicant’s Tutor.<br />

A written statement <strong>of</strong> the character <strong>of</strong> the work and expense involved,<br />

supported by a reference from the student’s academic supervisor, is<br />

required. Any student in financial difficulty should consult his or her<br />

Tutor immediately so that appropriate arrangements can be discussed. The<br />

Bursar is not able to assist a student financially until the student’s Tutor has
