<strong>College</strong> Discipline and the Payment <strong>of</strong> Bills 53<br />
(1) <strong>University</strong> Composition Fees and <strong>College</strong> Fees (<strong>for</strong> self-funding<br />
students) and some minor charges (<strong>for</strong> all students) are payable<br />
termly in advance (see 2.3). Bills will be sent out from the <strong>College</strong><br />
Office accordingly at the beginning <strong>of</strong> each term. Some self-funding<br />
students require annual confirmation from <strong>College</strong> that they have<br />
paid their fees. The Bursar will be pleased to supply this when<br />
payment has been made.<br />
(2) Meals (see 8.2). Meals are paid <strong>for</strong> in advance by way <strong>of</strong> a minimum<br />
billing charge per term <strong>of</strong> £150.00 <strong>for</strong> students living in single study<br />
bedrooms in the Norfolk and Laws Buildings and Benet House. All<br />
other students are required to pay a minimum billing charge <strong>of</strong> £45.00<br />
per term. <strong>St</strong> Edmund’s <strong>College</strong> is one <strong>of</strong> the very few <strong>College</strong>s in<br />
Cambridge which do not charge a Kitchen Fixed Charge. Meals are<br />
there<strong>for</strong>e paid <strong>for</strong> in advance by use <strong>of</strong> your <strong>University</strong> Card. The<br />
minimum billing charge allocation is put onto the card at the beginning<br />
<strong>of</strong> term, and further top-ups are made by paying at the <strong>College</strong> Office.<br />
(3) Rent (see 3.3). For undergraduate students living in <strong>College</strong><br />
accommodation, rent is paid termly in advance, a term being defined<br />
as a period <strong>of</strong> 10 weeks. For postgraduate students living in <strong>College</strong><br />
accommodation, rent is payable quarterly in advance. <strong>St</strong>udents living<br />
in houses rented by the <strong>College</strong> are required to pay their rent<br />
monthly in advance.<br />
<strong>St</strong>udents, Visiting Scholars and Visiting Fellows must ensure they have<br />
sufficient funds available at all times to pay each term’s account in full in<br />
advance, including their first payment on arrival in Cambridge.<br />
A penalty interest charge is applied to accounts not paid in full by the due<br />
date.<br />
All bills must be settled promptly, and your attention is drawn to the<br />
Code <strong>of</strong> Practice (see 9.2.3).<br />
9.2.2 Methods <strong>of</strong> Payment<br />
Payments will be received by the <strong>College</strong> Office. Please note that GB<br />
Pounds <strong>St</strong>erling is the only currency accepted by the <strong>College</strong>. You may pay<br />
by the following methods:<br />
(1) Cheque or Bank Draft. Cheques and Bank Drafts are to be made<br />
payable to <strong>St</strong> Edmund’s <strong>College</strong>.<br />
(2) Direct Deposit. Payment may be made directly into the <strong>College</strong><br />
Bank Account. Please be sure to include your name as the payment<br />
reference so that the payment can be allocated to the correct<br />
account.<br />
