same supervisor, all the students involved may attend. The Senior Tutor<br />
will invite the Directors <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>udies <strong>of</strong> all undergraduate students.<br />
Dress is <strong>for</strong>mal and gowns are worn. Supervisors’ Dinners are in other<br />
respects similar to <strong>College</strong> Guest Night dinners.<br />
8.10.8 Inaugural and Matriculation; Beginning <strong>of</strong> Year; Graduands’ Dinners<br />
These are dinners which mark the beginning and end <strong>of</strong> the academical<br />
year. They are open only to members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong> and their partners, and<br />
no guests may attend.<br />
The two Inaugural and Matriculations Dinners are open only to new<br />
members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong> and their partners, and to Fellows and to <strong>Members</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> the CR Executive. They take place at the beginning <strong>of</strong> the Michaelmas<br />
Term following the Inauguration Ceremonies held in the <strong>College</strong> Chapel.<br />
All new members will be allocated to an Inaugural Ceremony and are<br />
warmly encouraged to attend the dinner on the same evening and should<br />
sign-up at the Help Desk <strong>for</strong> the dinner. These dinners will be charged in<br />
the usual way. A list <strong>of</strong> those who are booked-in <strong>for</strong> the dinner will be<br />
displayed on the <strong>College</strong> notice board some days be<strong>for</strong>ehand. Those who<br />
are unable to attend are asked to in<strong>for</strong>m the Tutorial Office.<br />
The Beginning <strong>of</strong> Year Dinner is open to all other members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong><br />
and their partners. Advance booking is required.<br />
The Graduands’ Dinner is only open to those members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong><br />
proceeding to their degree and other members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong> who have<br />
completed their course (eg CASM). Advance booking is required. If space<br />
permits partners and guests are welcome.<br />
The Inaugural and Matriculation Dinner, the Beginning <strong>of</strong> Year Dinner<br />
and Ascension Day Dinner are ‘Scarlet’ Dinners (see 2.5). Dress is <strong>for</strong>mal<br />
and gowns are worn. Please note that while <strong>for</strong>mal evening wear (men:<br />
‘black tie’; women: evening dress) is worn by Fellows if new Fellows are<br />
being admitted, this is optional <strong>for</strong> other members, who may however dress<br />
in <strong>for</strong>mal evening wear if they wish. These dinners are in other respects<br />
similar to <strong>College</strong> Guest Night dinners.<br />
8.10.9 <strong>St</strong> Edmund’s Feast<br />
The <strong>St</strong> Edmund’s Feast is celebrated on the nearest Friday to 16 November,<br />
and commemorates both the Feast <strong>of</strong> the Patron Saint <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong>, Saint<br />
Edmund <strong>of</strong> Abingdon, and the arrival in the <strong>College</strong> buildings <strong>of</strong> the first<br />
Master and the first four students on 2 November 1896. The Feast is<br />
preceded by Evening Prayer in the <strong>College</strong> chapel at which a sermon is<br />
given by the <strong>St</strong> Edmund’s Preacher, who is invited each year and is a<br />
distinguished member <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong> the Christian churches.<br />
The <strong>St</strong> Edmund’s Feast is intended <strong>for</strong> the members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong>, and<br />
there are no distinguished outside guests, apart from the <strong>St</strong> Edmund’s<br />
Preacher. Other guests may not be invited to the Feast. Advance booking is
