10 Central <strong>University</strong> Facilities<br />

10.1 THE UNIVERSITY CARD<br />

All new students will need a <strong>University</strong> Card. The card will enable students<br />

to gain admission to the <strong>University</strong> Library and other university buildings<br />

and <strong>for</strong> meal charges.<br />

Undergraduates and graduates who provide a photograph to the Tutorial<br />

Office be<strong>for</strong>e coming to <strong>College</strong> will receive their <strong>University</strong> Cards after<br />

arriving at <strong>College</strong>. <strong>St</strong>udents will receive a note in their pigeonholes from<br />

the <strong>College</strong> Card Representative (Bursar’s Assistant, Room C2) when their<br />

cards are ready <strong>for</strong> collection. <strong>St</strong>udents are asked not to try to collect their<br />

cards until they have received a collection note.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents who do not provide a photograph be<strong>for</strong>e coming to the <strong>College</strong><br />

should contact the Card Representative and provide a photograph as soon<br />

as possible after arrived at <strong>College</strong> Please note that due to the high volume<br />

<strong>of</strong> cards to be printed, there may be some delay in receiving cards <strong>for</strong><br />

photographs submitted near the start <strong>of</strong> term.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents are asked not to present themselves at the <strong>University</strong> Card<br />

Offices to obtain their card, due to the volume <strong>of</strong> work the Card Offices<br />

attend to during the first few weeks <strong>of</strong> term, but to contact their <strong>College</strong><br />

Card Representative in the first instance.<br />

Please note: Visiting Fellows, Visiting Scholars and Senior Research<br />

Associates <strong>of</strong> the Von Hügel Institute, who are not members <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>University</strong>, will be charged at £7.50 (+ VAT, if applicable) per card issued.<br />

10.2 THE UNIVERSITY CENTRE<br />

Postgraduate and affiliated students are entitled to use the facilities <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>University</strong> Centre in Mill Lane, which <strong>of</strong>fers, amongst other things, a<br />

cafeteria, a <strong>for</strong>mal restaurant, a bar, c<strong>of</strong>fee lounges and a TV room.<br />

10.3 THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY<br />

The <strong>University</strong> Library arranges several introductory sessions at the<br />

beginning <strong>of</strong> each academical year. Details can be found on the <strong>College</strong><br />

notice boards. See also Library’s pages in the <strong>University</strong> website.<br />

10.3.1 Admission to the Library<br />

(1) Undergraduates should present themselves at the Library, situated in<br />

West Road, with their <strong>University</strong> Card which will be validated.<br />

(2) Postgraduate students registered by the Board <strong>of</strong> Graduate <strong>St</strong>udies<br />

should present themselves at the Library with either a letter from the<br />

BGS or <strong>University</strong> Card, where they will be given Library privileges<br />

according to their B.A or M.A status.
