There is keen rivalry—even hatred—between a pair oi<br />
Mexican villages, which stems irom the fact thai one is, and<br />
the other wants to be, the resting place ior the bones oi a<br />
historical hero ol the valley in which both towns are located.<br />
When Ricardo Montalban, mischief-making caballero of one<br />
village, ialls in love with Pier Angeli, the daughter of the<br />
mayor of the other, a series of situations is created that<br />
nearly leads to bloodshed. With the aid of his parish priest,<br />
a rigged cock-fight and the subsidizing oi a boundary-line<br />
statue of the community hero, Montalban overcomes the<br />
obstacles, peace is restored and Cupid triumphs. Meanwhile,<br />

THE STORY: "Flowers oi St. Francis" (Burstyn)<br />
The ten episodes from the life of St. Francis of Assissi, who<br />
founded the Franciscan order, first tell how St. Francis and<br />
his brothers arrived from Rome. Later, they built the chapel<br />
of St. Mary of the Angels and St. Francis preached to the<br />
noisy birds and made the swallows hold their peace. St.<br />
Francis was tormented in his solitude during the night and<br />
found comfort in meeting a leper; Brother Abilene cut the<br />
loot oil a pig to make soup, and then he went out preaching<br />
and iound himseli in the camp oi the Tyrant Nicolai. The<br />
barbarians are about to kill him, but Brother Abilene shames<br />
the tyrant and they ride away. The brothers later leave<br />
their chapel and go their separate ways to preach peace<br />

THE STORY: 'The War ol the Worlds" (Para)<br />
The inhabitants ol a small Calilornia town witness what<br />
is generally believed to be the crash of a huge meteor, but<br />
the object emits a heat ray which kills three people.<br />
Marines are called into action alter word is received that<br />
similar objects have landed in other parts oi the world<br />
and have been described as Martian machines. All attempts<br />
to destroy the monsters iail, even the A-bomb, and the<br />
crisis becomes world-wide. Hysterical panic ensues, and<br />
many people crowd the churches to regain iaith and hope.<br />
When the Martian machines begin to collapse, an investigation<br />
reveals a miracle has happened. A germ has iniecled<br />

THE STORY:<br />
"Marshal of Cedar Rock" (Rep)<br />
Rancher Bill Henry is jailed ior robbing the Cedar Rock<br />
bank, although claiming innocence. Rocky Lane, U.S. marshal,<br />
allows Henry to escape, hoping he will either clear<br />
himseli or lead Lane to the rest oi the bandit gang. Henry<br />
accuses Roy Barcroit, owner oi the bank, of staging the<br />
robbery himself, Barcroft's plot being to leave the local<br />
ranchers penniless so he can buy their properties cheap and<br />
. . .<br />
sell them, at a handsome profit, to a railroad which is<br />
anxious to purchase. Barcroft and his henchmen try to<br />
ambush and kill Lane and Henry and also attempt, unsuccessfully,<br />
to swindle Eddy Waller, with whom Lane has<br />
secured employment — posing as a roving cowhand—out of<br />
his ranch. In an all-out gunfight, the heavies are subdued<br />
and arrested, Henry is cleared oi the robbery charge and<br />
Lane sets out on another assignment.<br />

The bureau oi Indian affairs sends its agent. Rex Allen, out<br />
west to stop Apaches Irom leaving their reservation to stage<br />
uprisings. He encounters Roy Barcroft, head of a construction<br />
company which has a government contract to build a railway<br />
spur line. When a wagon train oi immigrants is attacked by<br />
the redskins and their supplies destroyed, Barcroit oilers<br />
them employment. In reality he engineered the attack as<br />
a means ol securing cheap labor. He continues to swindle<br />
the immigrants, but by now Rex begins to suspect the Barcroit<br />
scheme. Barcroit kills Rex's brother, who had been the<br />
crook's partner, and who now threatens to expose him. Rex<br />
is accused ol the murder and, heading lor the hills, is<br />
captured by the Apaches. Escaping, he rounds up the<br />
immigrant homesteaders and they defeat the Barcroit gang.<br />
