A. P. Archer and Jot Dekker have opened<br />

their Holiday Theatre, which before remodeling<br />

was the Egyptian . Knill, office<br />

manager for Gibraltar Enterprises, has returned<br />

from a two-week vacation and business<br />

trip to the west coast and Las Vegas. Nev.<br />

Cecil Foss, assistant manager at Sheridan,<br />

Wyo., has joined the navy and is taking recruit<br />

training at San Diego. Cal. . . . Quick<br />

action on the part of Sam Collins, manager of<br />

the Strand, Cheyenne, probably prevented<br />

someone from being shot, but at the risk of<br />

being shot himself. A patron had another<br />

man's girl friend in the theatre, and when<br />

they emerged the girl's regular boy friend<br />

backed the new heart tlirob against the wall<br />

with a gun. Collins came back to the theatre<br />

at this time, threw his overcoat over the<br />

gunner's head, and held him until the police<br />

arrived, which Collins said seemed like a<br />

week.<br />

Managerial changes by Gibraltar Enterprises<br />

theatres, as announced by Charles Gilmour,<br />

president, included the shifting of<br />

Doyle Jack.son from the Rex, Rocky Ford, to<br />

the West, Craig; where he succeeded Merf<br />

Leonard Leigh, assistant manager at Loveland,<br />

was moved to Socorro. N.M.. as city<br />

manager, and Joe Wills, Socorro, was moved<br />

to the Valley, Fowler . . . Lou Astor, Columbia<br />

circuit sales manager, was here for conferences<br />

with Robert Hill, manager. Together<br />

Al Kolitz, RKO district manager, and Marvin<br />

Goldferb, manager, were in Kansas City<br />

to attend the 25th anniversary sales meeting<br />

of the company . Parsons. NSS manager<br />

and Robert Bode, salesman, attended the<br />

begun the campaign for the pre-release showing<br />

Nogales Theatre Reopened<br />

NOGALES. ARIZ.—The Nogales Theatre<br />

has been reopened after a week's closure for<br />

repairs and repainting. Manager FYank Campillo<br />

pirst annual Film Festival of the World<br />

Playhouse in Sugar House drew 2,000 entries,<br />

according to Mack R. Eraser, manager.<br />

Those who voted on favorite films sent in $1<br />

along with their ballots. Tliey will see all<br />

.six film.s— "Asphalt Jungle," "Tales of Hoffman,"<br />

"Pygmalion," "Quartet," "Beauty and<br />

the Beast" and "Faust and the Devil"—for<br />

the $1.<br />

Ted Gallanter, MGM tub-thumper, was in<br />

Salt Lake to arrange exploitation for "The<br />

Clown," which is going into the Lyric. In addition<br />

to heavy newspaf>er advertising campaigns,<br />

window stickers and billboard posters,<br />

he has arranged for saturation spots on television.<br />

Marvin George has been advanced from<br />

house manager at the Centre Theatre to<br />

manager of the Capitol. He replaces Herb<br />

Schoenhardt. who resigned to become a member<br />

of the police department. Gilbert Mc-<br />

Bride, who has returned from the sei-vices,<br />

becomes assistant to Chester Price at the<br />

Centre.<br />

Bob Hedges, city manager for International<br />

Theatres in Logan, rates many kudos for his<br />

campaign on "The Stars and Stripes Forever."<br />

His staff obtained band uniforms from<br />

the Utah State Agricultural college in Logan,<br />

even wore them in off-hoiu-s as well as while<br />

working at the theatre. A band concert was<br />

held on the stage of the theatre opening night,<br />

with John Phillip Dalby, director of the college<br />

band, leading.<br />

Carroll Wright Is Ncmied<br />

ROCKY FORD, COLO.—Carroll Wright has<br />

been promoted to managing supervisor of<br />

Gibraltar Enterprise Theatres in Fowler and<br />

Ordway. as well as of the Rex and Grand<br />

theatres here. Tlie company headquarters is<br />

located in Denver. He has been employed by<br />

Gibraltar for 15 years. Wright started as an<br />

usher in a Loveland theatre.<br />

Edward Metzgar Sells Airer<br />

MOSCOW, IDAHO—Edward H. Metzgar.<br />

operator of the Auto airer just west of here,<br />

has disposed of two outdoor situations at<br />

Clarkston and Lewistown Orchards, it was<br />

revealed recently. They were sold to the<br />

Liberty Theatre Corp., of Lewistown, owned<br />

by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wall. Before coming<br />

here Metzgar operated a theatre at Kellogg.<br />
