Bob O'Donnell Calls Him
'Mr. Motion Pictures'
R. J. O'Donnell. international chairman of
the Golden Jubilee, sponsored by Variety
Clubs International in honor of Adolph Zukor.
introduced him as "Mr. Motion Pictures" at
the dinner given in Hollywood on the occasion
of Zukor's 80th birthday. He said
further: "It may well be said that Thomas
Edison invented the motion picture—that
Adolph Zukor took it from there. It is an
undisputed fact that no man, not only in our
time but in the entire history of our industry,
has made more contributions to its progress
and development than has Mr. Zukor.
"I believe I can say that none of us here
would be in the positions we are in today, had
it not been for his pioneering vision and
courage and foresight in the early days.
"Almost without exception, his ideas and
conceptions were bold and daring. In fact,
so much so that, at first, they were scorned
to such an extent, he often found himself
without support and had to proceed alone to
demonstrate and prove the soundne.ss of his
convictions. How-ever, as others came to recognize
the genius of his plans, then they were
eager to fall into line and follow in his footsteps.
"The many varied aspects of his full, active
and creative career all add up to one thing:
that no one else so rightly deserves, no one
else has so sincerely earned the honor and
distinction of being addressed as 'Mi'. Motion
Pictures.'
