The University of Minnesota Film society,<br />

highly impresed with "La Ronde." is bringing<br />

it back for a three-day showing April 5-7 ..<br />

The rise in popularity of jazz concerts,<br />

spurred by the appearance of Doc Evans and<br />

his Dixieland band at the House of Hastings,<br />

and Percey Hughes and his progressive jazz<br />

unit at the Flame, is echoed in film. The<br />

public library, in its showings for teen-agers,<br />

booked two jazz short subjects to capitalize<br />

on the interest.<br />

Hayden Owen Promoted<br />

LA CROSSE. WIS.—Hayden Owen has<br />

been appointed manager of the Rivoh Theatre<br />

here, succeeding William Frei.se, who will<br />

be director of publicity and advertising for the<br />

La Cro,sse Amusement Co., which owns the<br />

Rivoli. Frei.se started in the show business<br />

m 1931 and has been employed at theatres in<br />

Milwaukee, Appleton and Menasha.<br />

Robert Freer Named Manager<br />

CHEROKEE. IOWA—Robert Freer. 24, of<br />

Cherokee became manager of the Arrow Theatre<br />

here, succeeding Don Barnes who has<br />

joined the armed forces. Freer formerly was<br />

employed at the Arrow as<br />

operator, and last<br />

summer was manager of the Corral Drive-In.<br />

MILWAUKEE<br />

Dillie Pierce, manager of the Savoy for the<br />

last 15 years and previously assistant<br />

manager at the Alhambra. is resigning to accept<br />

the management of Mike Chesnick's new<br />

Highway 15 Drive-In, located six miles from<br />

Wauke.sha . Devil" is playing its<br />

second week at both the Fox Wisconsin Palace<br />

and the Wisconsin . . . Clarence Olson, salesman<br />

for First National here many years ago<br />

and recently manager for United Artists in<br />

Salt Lake City. Denver and San FYancisco,<br />

now is sales manager for P*referred Pictures<br />

covering Denver, Salt Lake City, Des Moines,<br />

Omaha and Kansas City.<br />

Joan Meyer, secretary at the Screen Guild-<br />

Lippert exchange, is engaged to Al Mangan,<br />

private in the army who was home on leave<br />

recently before leaving for overseas duty . . .<br />

E. W. Van Norman, manager of the Times,<br />

Wauwatosa, and former manager of the Uptown<br />

and National and part-owner of the<br />

Parkway, told the Milwaukee Central club<br />

that exhibitors would not invest in expensive<br />

equipment for three-dimension until a<br />

single system of 3-D had been devised.<br />

Rose Dietrick, has been named manager of<br />

the Towne Theatre, New Holstein, replacing<br />

Warren Moyle, who has moved over to management<br />

of the two theatres at Baraboo for<br />

Eskin Theatres . . . Lee Macklin has installed<br />

new projection equipment in the Grand. New<br />

London. .<br />
