i'nusual accidents happen. The latest one<br />

to Wee-Gee McCabe. receptionist at Video.<br />

While playing with her small nephew he<br />

stuck his finger in her eye. scratching the<br />

eyeball . . . Las Vegas night was Monday<br />

(5> at the Variety Club. A good attendance<br />

was there from Filmrow, exhibitors and<br />

special guests.<br />

Jess Jones, Ritz, Crescent, .cancelled<br />

all bookings starting December 1 due to<br />

business conditions. As soon as the news<br />

leaked out, the editor of the newspaper rushed<br />

down and wanted to keep the theatre open<br />

at least through December and promised<br />

help from the businessmen of Crescent. Jess<br />

agreed to give all the cooperation he could<br />

and immediately rebooked pictures for December.<br />

With the help of Max FinesUber<br />

of Yukon to do the booking and the fine<br />

businessmen of Crescent, this theatre may<br />

survive and not have to close its doors.<br />

Twenty members of the UTOO board of<br />

directors met December 5. Ed Thorne.<br />

president, appointed Earl Snyder, Bob Busch.<br />

Athel Boyter and Gordon Leonard on the<br />

entertainment committee. For the women's<br />

activities, a committee of MoUie Goerke, Ann<br />

Thorne, Billie Slocum and Aveece Waldron,<br />

as chairman, was appointed. Opal Gray,<br />

Esquire Theatre. Chickasha and Frank Nordean.<br />

Konawa, were special guests at the<br />

board meeting. Next meeting will be January<br />

Red Slocum was in Dallas recently conferring<br />

with Kyle Rorex of Texas COMPO:<br />

and W. L. PuUen. regarding membership in the<br />

UTOO for McAlester, and Harry Sachs for<br />

the Delman, Tulsa. Red combined business<br />

with pleasure and called on Ship BuUard of<br />

the Ship Drive-In and Savage Theatres. Durant.<br />

receiving his membership dues for 1955-<br />

56 in the UTOO. as well as Jim Rochelle,<br />

owner of the Comet Drive-In, Sulphur. Slocum<br />

also called on Earl Snyder and Harold<br />

Bowers, Tulsa, both members of the board<br />

of UTOO. He visited with Jack Hull, manager<br />

of the Tulsa Downtown Theatres, and<br />

was assured of membership immediately in<br />

UTOO. Many improvements are being made<br />

in the properties of the Downtown Tulsa<br />

Theatres. A new island concession booth<br />

was just installed in the Ritz Theatre lobby<br />

and changes are being made in the concession<br />

stands of the Majestic. Orpheum and<br />

Rialto.<br />

Hugh McKee, Universal office manager<br />

here, has been transferred to Kansas City's<br />

U-I sales staff. Dick May, booker, has been<br />

promoted to office manager here and a new<br />

booker will be announced later.<br />

All of Detimark's commercial motion picture<br />

theatres exhibit 35mm films.<br />

Clarence Hobbs Manages<br />

Theatres at Conway, Ark.<br />

MORRILTON. ARK.—Clarence Hobbs. city<br />

manager for United Theatres here, has been<br />

named acting manager of the Conway and<br />

Grand theatres at Conway. He will serve<br />

temporarily until a new manager is named.<br />

The interest of Sid B. Robinson, former manager,<br />

was purchased recently by United and<br />

the partnership dissolved.<br />

Hobbs will continue to operate the Rialto<br />

and Rivervue drive-ins here in addition to<br />

his<br />

duties at Conway.<br />

Garland Patrons Compete<br />

For Chrislmas Bonuses<br />

GARLAND. TEX. — Three "Christmas<br />

bonuses" totaling more than S500 will be<br />

awarded as prizes in a giveaway December 21<br />

at the Garland Road Drive-In Theatre.<br />

The Humble service station operators in<br />

Garland are cooperating in the big cash<br />

award event. First prize will be $300; second<br />

prize, $125, and third prize, $80.<br />

New Prices Into Effect<br />

DALLAS—A new price schedule has been<br />

put into effect at the Delman Theatre here.<br />

Adult prices are 50 cents, with children under<br />

12 admitted for 20 cents. Children under<br />

12 are admitted free when accompanied by<br />

parents. Prices for the Saturday children's<br />

matinee are 50 cents and 25 cents, with children<br />

under 12 free when accompanied by a<br />

parent.<br />

H. A. Garrett Named<br />

GURDON. ARK.—H. A. Garrett has taken<br />

over as manager of the Hoo-Hoo Theatre<br />

here, succeeding W. L. White, who has accepted<br />

a job with Paramount and will work<br />

out of the New Orleans office. Garrett came<br />

here from Oklahoma City.<br />

Birthday Party at Bessemer<br />

BESSEMER. ALA.—The Carver Outdoor<br />

Theatre here, managed by J. B. Benn, celetrated<br />

its first birthday recently with a big<br />

party for patrons.<br />

Bowie Has New Manager<br />

FORT WORTH. TEX.—The Bowie Theatre<br />

here, recently purchased from the Interstate<br />

circuit by Cinema Art Theatres, headed<br />

by William O'Donnell. now has a new manager.<br />

He is Thomas Luttrell from Amarillo.<br />
