Missouri Theatre Supply furnished Dickinsons
Lux Tlieatrc at Joplin a new RCA
Dynalite widescreen. The Uptown at Sweet
Springs, operated by Charles Thomas, was
also furnished a Dynalite screen and complete
Cinemascope equipment. MTS installed
Cinemascope lenses in Joe Ghosen's Uptown
at Sedalia and RCA Brenkert projectors.
Pour pairs of lenses went to the Commonwealth
circuit and two pairs of CinemaScope
lenses to Bob Fellers of the Mid-Central circuit
at Manhattan.
Carol Cook, secretary at Universal for the
past six months, starts January 3 in the
Buena Vista office as .secretary to Tommy
Thompson. She started on Filmrow at Universal,
then spent some time at Commonwealth
before returning to Universal . . . Dick
Durwood of Durwood Theatres is on vacation
to move his family into a new house in
Jarboe Circle. Stan Durwood spends two days
a week in Wichita looking after the details
for KEDD-TV . B. Smith, director of
publicity and advertising for Commonwealth,
made a trip to Yankton, S. D. H. E. Jameyson,
chairman, was in town for a lx)ard
meeting. Ray Holmes, district manager, was
in from Lawrence.
E. C. Rhoden sr., president of National
Theatres, is in Europe on a combined business
and pleasure trip. He is expected back here
for the holidays. Fox Midwest had about
76.000 votes in the Audience Awards. These
also selected James Dean, Peggy Lee and
Tab Hunter but "A Man Called Peter" was
their choice for the best picture and June
Allyson their top female star . . Darrel

Presnell, booker for District Manager Fred
Souttar. has been in the hospital because of
an eye injury suffered while cutting up
kindling. Julie, daughter of LeRoy Nichols,
manager of the Regent Theatre at Wellington,
Kas., is getting along fine after hospitalization
for what at first appeared to be
polio. Bill Belton's son is also home from the
hospital. Belton manages the Buford at
Arkansas City.
Nick Kotsis, who still lives at Holden, Mo.,
although the Holden Theatre has closed, was
in booking for the Oswego Theatre at Oswego,
Kas., which he still manages . . . Christmas
Cartoon and Candy Carnivals are being used
by Fox Midwest Theatres for the holiday vacation
days. Lyle Holman of the People's
Theatre at Chanute originated the plan of
giving candy bar prizes for certain theatre
stubs at the concession counter. Rock-
Around-the-CIock watch parties are also
being featured and a playing combination of
the Audience Awards pictures, "East of Eden"
and "Battle Cry" is paying off at the boxoffice
as similar- treatment with Academy
Awards did.
Rem to Be Remodeled
REMINGTON, IND.—The Rem Theatre,
whicii was purchased several weeks ago by
Charles Lane from H. A. Heyers of Morocco,
was scheduled to reopen after extensive remodeling
and equipment installation.
Watchdog Named by Berger
MINNEAPOLIS — Bennie Berger, North
Central Allied president, Tuesday was to
name a "watchdog" to represent the National
Allied emergency defense committee, of which
Berger is chairman, in gathering testimony
for the Senate hearing on film rentals and
to help protect exhibitor interests. All other
Allied units also will have such "watchdogs."
