MARITIMES
IJarley Wynn of the Capitol, Digby, N. S., was
the victim of a daring armed robbery
shortly before 11 p.m. after the theatre had
been closed for the night. Two men went
to a second floor apartment in the building
occupied by Wynn and asked him to go downstairs
to the theatre, claiming they thought
they had dropped a pocketbook. Wynn complied
with the request. When they reached
the lobby one of the men pulled out a gun.
ordering Wynn to turn over the boxoffice
money. Wynn opened the boxoffice and the
men took some $60. The robbers had an
accomplice outside the theatre with a car,
said Wynn. An alarm was sounded by Wynn
as soon as the men left, but so far no trace
of them has been found. The Capitol is
owned by the SPA Co. of Bridgeport, N. S., of
which Arthur Fielding is president.
George E. "Bob" Fulton, owner and operator
of the Capitol in Oxford, N. S., whose slogan
is "The Little Theatre With the Big Pictures,"
has had a most colorful industry career. He
was one of the first exhibitors to show
16mm throughout the countryside of Nova
Scotia for over 15 years. In 1948, he opened
the Capitol Theatre in Oxford, where he has
been an outstanding civic leader, having
served on the council for two years. At present,
he is president of the local Board of
Trade and an active member of the Kiwanians
and Canadian Legion. Bob is more than
an amateur magician and is in great demand
at conventions and social clubs. This art has
served him well as added entertainment in his
theatre at times.
TV Watcher Misses Theatre Prize
OTTAWA—It cost William Cox plenty to
sit at home watching the TV instead of attending
a theatre here. He missed getting
$3,950 when his name was called in the
Foto-Nite stunt at the Linden where the
proprietor is Casey Swedlove. A second name.
Miss Laura LaRocque, was called but she was
also an absentee.
