Second Week of Trap'
125 in Twin Cities
MINNEAPOLIS—It was the second week
for "The Tender Trap," but it still led the
town. Another holdover. "Rebel Without a
Cause," in its third week also was sensational
and "African Lion," in its third, too, was
good. Otherwise, business suffered from the
near proximity of Christmas, with stores open
.
at night and shopping breaking all records,
as well as subzero temperatures. None of the
newcomers did well, except the "Teenage
Crime Wave"-"Girl Rush" twin bill.
No Settlement Is Reached
With Projectionists
STEVENS POINT, WIS.—The strike at the
local Fox and Lyric theatres here is still
going on after months of argument have
failed to bring agreement between theatre
managements and the projectionists Local
606. The Local protests the employment of
nonunion men. The strike started last May.
with both houses closing soon after the trouble
i
i
started.
At a meeting in December the managements
offered to pay $121 for a 42':-hour
week, as against $140 for a 40-hour week (the
scale in effect when the strike start€d).
One cause of the continued disagreement is
a city ordinance which requires two operators
in the booth during all hours shows are being I
presented. Local 606 has rejected the consequent
proffered plan by which the two opera-
,
tors on duty would split the $121, each rej
ceiving $60.50 for a 42'j-hour, seven-day
week.
The Fox is owned by Fox Wisconsin Co.
and the Lyric by L. F. Grand Co., both of
Milwaukee.
