8 New Features, 4 Reprints<br />

On MGM's 4-Month Lineup<br />

Five of 8 New Films Are in<br />

CinemaScope<br />

NEW YORK—The emphasis will be on<br />

drama in the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lineup<br />

of product to be released in the first four<br />

months of 1956. There will be eight new features<br />

and four Masterpiece Reprints—to<br />

provide, among other themes, two stories set<br />

In the Old West, a musical, a romance of the<br />

16th Century and a comedy starring the "I<br />

Love Lucy" couple, Lucille Ball and Desi<br />

Arnaz.<br />

The lineup Is generously endowed with<br />

color—seven in Eastman Color and three in<br />

Technicolor—and all 12 are for widescreen<br />

projection, with six in CinemaScope. In its<br />

early 1956 product, MGM is introducing new<br />

talent along with some of its established<br />

stars. Leslie Nielson. a newcomer on whom<br />

the studio places great hope, will be seen in<br />

two of the pictures, while other new talents<br />

include Irene Papas, Lillian Montevecchi and<br />

John Kerr.<br />

For its entries in the Masterpiece Reprint<br />

series, the company has picked four pictures<br />

which were top boxoffice winners when first<br />

— released. Three of them "The Stratton<br />

Story." "The Three Musketeers" and "The<br />

Yearling"—won the BOXOFFICE Blue Ribbon<br />

Award for general excellence and for<br />

providing wholesome entertainment for the<br />

entire family, while the fourth, "Northwest<br />

Passage," was one of the three top pictures<br />

in the BOXOFFICE-Barometer ratings in the<br />

year it was released.<br />

The first two releases in the new year will<br />

bring contrasting stories. One, "Diane," starring<br />

Lana Turner, Pedro Armendariz. Roger<br />

Moore and Sir Cedric Hardwicke. and produced<br />

in CinemaScope, is the story of a<br />

woman who ruled the heart of Henry II of<br />

Prance in the 16th Century. The second feature,<br />

"Ransom," is based on a successful<br />

United Steel Hour television show of some<br />

months back, dealing with the kidnapping<br />

of the son of a well-to-do business executive,<br />

and the father's efforts to gain the son's release<br />

without aid of the police. Starred are<br />

Glemi Ford, Donna Reed, Juano Hernandez.<br />

The release .schedule for the remaining<br />

months will include:<br />

FEBRUARY—"Forever, Darling," the second<br />

Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz comedy, with<br />

James Mason and Louis Calhern, in a story<br />

about a pair of honeymooners who find themselves<br />

escorted by a guardian angel to smooth<br />

over the rough spots (Eastman Color and<br />

widescreem: "The Last Hunt," starring Robert<br />

Taylor, Stewart Granger, Lloyd Nolan.<br />

Debra Paget, based on a novel by Milton Lott<br />

dealing with the last big buffalo hunt in the<br />

early west (CinemaScope, Eastman Color)<br />

"The Three Musketeer.-^." Ma.sterpiece Reprint.<br />

Sinister" and "Wildfire." which was previously<br />

scheduled for September release, will<br />

be available under its final title after December<br />
