In each class the wagons are subdivided depending on payload. The three most common
payloads are 50 ton, 70 ton and 100 ton.
This chapter describes the strength <strong>of</strong> the Box car types and some <strong>of</strong> the Flat car types. The
recommended practices <strong>for</strong> design and construction also have rules <strong>for</strong> Hopper Cars and
Gondola cars but it is only the Box car types and Flat car types that are used <strong>for</strong> general cargo.
