10.9 Summary<br />

The cost <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> cargo securing is almost in all cases lower <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> railway transport. The main<br />

reas<strong>on</strong>s are<br />

− In several cases <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> railway transport the cargo is allowed to slide lengthways. This is<br />

not an opti<strong>on</strong> in road transports and the securing arrangement will be extensive, if the<br />

load is not blocked <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g>ward.<br />

− The UIC guidelines <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> cargo securing are designed <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> lower dimensi<strong>on</strong>ing <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g>ces than<br />

road transport, see chapter 5.<br />

− The different types <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> goods in the load cases are suitable <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> railway transports as they<br />

are taken from the UIC-guidelines.<br />
