• The Jordan Hall lounge (Jordan Hall, Room 339). Recently remodeled, the lounge has comfortable<br />

seating, vending machines and a microwave oven.<br />

• The foreign language lab (Jordan Hall, Room 391). The lab is a quiet, comfortable study area with<br />

access to several computers. Foreign language films, magazines, satellite T.V. stations and instruction<br />

tapes are available for students who want to study a language.<br />

• A study lounge in the lower level of Atherton Union next to the Efroymson Diversity Center<br />

Transcripts<br />

The official student academic record is kept in the registration and records office. The student must make<br />

any request for a transcript of the record in writing to the registration and records office. <strong>Student</strong>s may view<br />

their transcript at my.butler.edu. To protect the student from an unauthorized person obtaining a transcript,<br />

telephone requests will not be honored. Currently enrolled students may have up to five unofficial transcripts<br />

without charge; in the semester a student applies to graduate, and for one year after that application,<br />

the student may have official transcripts free of charge up to a limit of 25. There is a fee for all other transcript<br />

requests. No transcript will be issued if there is a “hold” on the record because the student has not<br />

fulfilled financial obligations or has failed to return <strong>University</strong> property.<br />

Transfer Credit<br />

Occasionally a student pursuing a degree at <strong>Butler</strong> may find it necessary or desirable to take academic<br />

work elsewhere—usually during a summer session at a school near the student’s home. Any student planning<br />

to take work elsewhere for credit to be applied toward a <strong>Butler</strong> degree should note carefully the following<br />

procedures and regulations:<br />

1. Approve in advance: Course selections and schools must be approved in advance if the student<br />

wishes to ensure that the credits will be accepted. The student should obtain from the school he<br />

plans to attend a “guest” or “transient” student application and catalog with adequate descriptions of<br />

the courses selected and should bring these to their academic dean. If the student is in good standing<br />

and the requested courses are acceptable, the dean will so certify on the transient student application<br />

and will note on the student’s record the fact that the courses have been approved for transfer<br />

credit. The student, of course, will ordinarily wish to consult the adviser when selecting courses.<br />

2. Transcript to <strong>Butler</strong>: The student must request of the registrar at the school of guest enrollment that<br />

a transcript be sent to the registration and records office at <strong>Butler</strong>. Early in the next semester, the<br />

student should stop at the registration and records office to verify receipt of the transcript. The registrar<br />

will post the credit on the student’s record.<br />

3. Minimum grade: <strong>Butler</strong> will grant transfer credit only for courses passed with grades of C- or better.<br />

Grades earned elsewhere are not computed in the <strong>Butler</strong> cumulative GPA, which is the average<br />

of grades earned at <strong>Butler</strong>. One should, however, earn the highest grades possible, even as a transient<br />

student. Later, when applying for graduate or professional school or for a position, the student<br />

will be asked to submit transcripts from all institutions previously attended; grades earned at other<br />

institutions could affect the disposition of the application.<br />

4. Transfer credit will not be granted for any course that duplicated one passed at <strong>Butler</strong>. A grade at<br />

<strong>Butler</strong> cannot be replaced with a grade earned elsewhere.<br />

5. Credits earned at an institution that is on the quarter system will be converted to semester hours at<br />

<strong>Butler</strong>. Three quarter hours equal two semester hours at <strong>Butler</strong>.<br />

Withdrawals<br />

If it becomes necessary to withdraw completely from <strong>Butler</strong> for reasons other than medical, a student<br />

should confer at once with the dean of the appropriate college who will initiate the complete withdrawal. The<br />

form must be taken to the office of registration and records before the withdrawal is official. If a student seeks<br />
