Advising. Members of the PuLSE office advise several student organizations including all branches of the<br />

<strong>Student</strong> Government Association (SGA), Fall Alternative Break (FAB), Alternative Spring Break (ASB) and<br />

Ambassadors of Change (AOC).<br />

Leadership training. A number of workshops and retreats are offered for the new and/or seasoned student<br />

leader.<br />

Legacy Leadership program. The PuLSE office coordinates the legacy leadership program which focuses<br />

on personal leadership skills, organizational leadership issues and development of community.<br />

Service consultations. Members of the Volunteer Center and the PuLSE office can help individuals and<br />

student organizations connect to a variety of ongoing or one-time service opportunities within the Indianapolis<br />

community and beyond.<br />

Service learning. Members of the PuLSE office work with various entities on campus and within the<br />

community on service-learning initiatives.<br />

<strong>Student</strong> organization accounts. <strong>Student</strong> organizations may conduct a variety of financial transactions within<br />

the office. <strong>Student</strong>s can check organizational account balances, make deposits and receive cash advances. Please<br />

note, every recognized student organization must maintain its financial account at <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong> (for full<br />

policy see Organization Funds page 58)<br />

<strong>Student</strong> organization consultations. Members of the PuLSE office can help individuals and groups<br />

with a variety of organizational needs including event planning, developing goals, resolving conflict, fundraising<br />

and transitioning.<br />

<strong>Student</strong> organization records. The office maintains student organization records including constitutions,<br />

lists of officers, lists of advisors and various reports completed by the organization. Each December<br />

organizations must complete a fall semester report. Each spring, the office conducts a recognition process in<br />

which all organizations must submit updated information. Anyone who wishes to form an organization must<br />

begin the process through this office.<br />

Volunteer Center. The office supervises the student-run Volunteer Center located in Atherton 100. The<br />

center provides a variety of ways for students to get involved in the Indianapolis community including a<br />

weekly listserv and monthly service projects.<br />

The PuLSE office is also glad to assist any student organization with programming, goal setting, fundraising,<br />

service project planning and any other type of leadership development. A variety of resources are<br />

available in this office:<br />

Leadership library. <strong>Student</strong>s can find books and other resources on a variety of leadership topics and<br />

skills (i.e., icebreakers, team builders, assertiveness, committee recruitment, meeting management) to check<br />

out on-loan as resources.<br />

Master calendar. A list of campus activities and student organization events can be found in this office.<br />

This calendar is subject to change.<br />

Organization mailboxes. Each recognized student organization has a mailbox located in the Atherton<br />

Union study lounge. Organization mail that is received by the PuLSE office as well as <strong>University</strong> correspondence<br />

is put in these mailboxes.<br />

Reservation “blue” forms. <strong>Student</strong> organizations use these forms to reserve meeting rooms and activity<br />

space across campus. <strong>Student</strong>s can pick these forms up in the PuLSE office or online at<br />

http://www.butler.edu/about/conferences-special-events/general-information.<br />

Recreation Department<br />

Located in the Health and Recreation Complex, along with Counseling and Consultation Services and<br />

Health Services, the Department of Recreation offers students various activities to promote comprehensive<br />

health. Hours of operation are posted on the HRC website at www.butler.edu/hrc/. Contact the recreation<br />

department at (317) 940-4REC or the Health and Recreation Complex desk at (317) 940-4HRC for more<br />
