Characteristics and techniques: the flexibility of being to give students pictures to hold
which they can then come to the front of the class and stick on the board.
The students can be divided into pairs or groups. Each student can be given one
picture and/or word and students take it in turns to place their pictures on the board.
They must he able to say what connection (heir picture has with the last picture or word
placed there. If the class like (he idea, the picture can be left on the hoard.
The activity can be done by having only two pictures which have to be related or by
telling a story with each successive picture illustrating the next part of the story.
In this example, the two pictures have been related:
STUDENT: The ghost has lived in this house for three hundred years.

Characteristics and techniques: building up a situation, moving pictures to illustrate a
story.
These three media lend themselves to the established audio visual approach of using
pictures Lo illustrate a story or a dialogue. The understanding of the story helps the
student to understand the meaning of language new to them. The students having
heard and understood the story then retell it, act out the dialogue and change the
